Job Summary
:           

Assists with general patient care, data collection, documentation, application of monitoring devices, communicates patient data to nurse, stocks necessary equipment and supplies in patient rooms.  The employee will demonstrate knowledge in the current concepts of his/her field and is responsible for providing quality service to patients and families.  

Accurate and Timely Patient Care

  • Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures.

  • Assists Staff Registered Nurse in complicated treatment procedures as requested. 

  • Provides patient with accurate and timely personal care, taking and recording vital signs and taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and intake/output measurements as delegated by Staff Registered Nurse.

  • Performs phlebotomy on patient

  • Performs EKG

  • Places patient on monitor, telemetry, and pulse oximeter.

  • Completes personal care needs for patients including bathing, feeding, dressing, toileting and ambulating

  • Assists patients with handling and care of clothing and other personal property.

  • Transports patients to and from various departments as requested

  • Documentation meets current standards and policies of organization and unit.

  • Follows the plan of care established by RN

Environment Free from Contaminants & Hazards

  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning and stocking the utility/equipment rooms.

  • Reports equipment that is out of order.

  • Supports a culture of safety and quality patient care.  Communicates appropriately and clearly to Registered Nurse colleagues, co-workers and physicians.

  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

  • Appropriately handles clean and dirty supplies on the unit and reports other problems to Registered Nurse.

Effective Collaboration that Helps Achieve Organizational Goals

  • Participates in department and/or system wide team dynamic initiatives.

  • Communicates effectively to optimize patient care, expresses positive customer relations and contributes to a supportive and cooperative working environment.

  • Provides day-to-day support of workflow within the work unit.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family.

  • Act as a team player and works collaboratively within the team and organization.

  • Identifies better, faster, more efficient ways of doing tasks as well as eliminates unnecessary work and all non-value-added activities to enable a focus on work that generates greater value.

  • Responds to requests from Clinical Supervisor, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assist with evaluation of programs and services.  Communicates with Clinical Supervisor regarding cost savings initiatives and planning.

 


Job Qualifications:

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year prior experience working in an acute care facility preferred. Previous experience as a nursing assistant, EMT, or current enrollment in nursing school preferred.

 

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Must have current CPR certification

  • Phlebotomy certification and experience preferred. 

     

    Skills

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

  • Must possess ability to successfully interact with stakeholder (patients, providers, families, staff, management, physicians and general public.)

Physical Demands

Ability to move or transfer patients with an individual effort equal to 50 lbs. Should have a full range of body motion to successfully perform all essential functions of the job, meaning you’ll have to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and reach frequently during a 12 hour shift.

 

Language Ability

Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/trade/technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, patients, and vendors.

 

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, rates and ratios.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.   

  

Working Conditions

Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases and related medical waste.
