Respiratory Therapist (Part-Time)

Job Responsibilities:

Job Summary:           

Under the supervision of the RT supervisor or designee and upon request of the physician, performs therapeutic procedures, set up, operates, and maintains various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness. The respiratory care practitioner is competent at delivering patient care for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The respiratory therapist will administer treatments, manage mechanical ventilators, EKG's, holters and ABG's.



Job Qualifications:

Education & Experience

Graduate of A.A.S in respiratory care.  Must have one year experience in acute care.  

 

Licenses and/or Certifications

Must be a RRT or CRT.  If CRT must obtain RRT within 1 year of employment. Must also have a New York state license. Must have CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS and NRP certifications. Must complete PALS and NRP within 3 months of hire.

  1. Maintains professional competencies.

  2. Fulfills job requirements for professional licensed role within respective department. 

  3. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, test, and equipment to patient.

  4. Performs physician prescribed treatments through the operation of various oxygen and aerosol delivery devices in order to administer humidity and prescribed vapors and gases to the respiratory system of patient.

  5. Performs arterial puncture and analysis.

  6. Assist RN with care if patients.

  7. Ability to perform pulmonary function studies.

  8. Performs EKG’s.

  9. Assist in transport of critically ill patients to other healthcare facilities as needed.

  10. Provides patient education.

  11. On-Call (12 hours)

  12. Work weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.
