Summary/Position Overview:
POSITION SCOPE:

Under general supervision, the Distribution Technician will perform a wide variety of skilled-level duties in support of the Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) team including: reading, monitoring, programming, installing, activating, inspecting, diagnosing, replacing, and routing AMI meters; operates all software related to AMI; generates AMI log summaries; submits AMI information to Clevest; maintains AMI inventory; conducts audits utilizing AMI data and upkeep of the Field Assets specific but not limited to GBPC’s AMI network, distribution automation  (DA) devices, and controls for all field smart devices.  
 


Duties and Tasks:
DUTIES AND TASKS:
Maintain health, safety, and environment standards by:

- Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards. 
- Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
- Completing all required HSE training.

Achieve performance results by:
- Working from maps, blueprints, specifications, and sketches to carry out work instructions.
- Constantly responding to Customer Solutions/Risk & Revenue requests to resolve power quality and complex meter related issues.
- Conducting AMI operation to include testing accuracy of meters; testing on instrument transformers; programming and testing of all AMI meters, routers and Distribution Automation radios.
- Executing proper selection and installing of current transformers and potential transformers.
- Reporting all related field activities/changes for single and three phase residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
- Overseeing commissioning exercise for all installations by confirming complete initiation in both AMI and Clevest, verifying voltages, reads and interprets charts.
- Providing assistance to Risk & Revenue as needed to monitor and investigate power diversion. 
- Maintaining and calibrating all Meter Test equipment housed in the Test Lab. 
- Addressing all AMI field service orders within a predetermined time frame.
- Managing AMI technology for physical installation, programming, monitoring, and analysis of AMI Meters and AMI Meter data. 
- Troubleshooting all issues with AMI Meter installations.  
- Assisting the Metering Supervisor with maintaining inventory levels of AMI components. 
- Utilizing AMI system to monitor system statistics and dashboards, produce reports, and perform other analysis in conjunction with Meter Division, Billing, and common metering functions. 
- Assisting the Metering Supervisor with the coordination of various hardware and software deployment, as well as the review and implementation of various automation and business process improvement opportunities.
- Receiving and responding to customer inquiries and complaints and other related metering activities.


- Recommending improvements where and when appropriate with a formal report. 
- Using CYME software for distribution analysis, fault current, load balance and power flow.
- Executing investigations related to Damage Claims.
- Connecting power quality and other monitoring devices to confirm abnormities or executing random audits.
- Providing power quality analysis utilizing PQ monitors, solving customer issues, harmonic analysis, initiating investigations to resolve PQ issues.
- Reviewing Command Center alarms daily to identify trends and resolve abnormalities.
- Assisting with programming DA controls and with installation and commissioning. 
- Assisting with initializing renewable customers.
- Assisting Engineering with renewable system design approval, co-generation metering and field issues.
- Maintaining GIS metering and renewables layer with alterations and new additions.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results/ tasks as needed.
 


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:
ACADEMIC, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The Distribution Technician will have college or technical/vocational school courses in math, electrical theory, or related field; preferred with five years previous experience in a metering and power systems role. They must have thorough knowledge of Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), metering and meter-related work practices. They will have a thorough understanding on single and three phase circuit and transformer configuration. They will be fundamentally sound with power math, phasor diagrams, per unit, power factor, impedance conversion, voltage drop. They will be proficient in uploading and download to all Electronic Intelligent Device (reclosers, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, etc.) and meter file. They will also be proficient in operating metering test bench and field devices test equipment. They will have an aptitude to work without close supervision and to make decisions well-suited with prior instructions. They will have a strong power systems and communication background. With strong Customer Service skills and have a sound troubleshooting skillset for electrical circuits and communication networks. They will have the ability to train Meter Technicians in proper safety, Smart Device Communication/Operation, Meter theory, wiring installations, meter repair or modification, and related software. They will also have a clear understanding on operational and business knowledge related to the meter to bill process.

The Distribution Technician should be able to work Independently organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments. They should understand and follow oral and written instructions and know how to effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks. They should also be able to maintain and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
