Summary/Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of all instruments, electrical and control systems; as well as other equipment necessary for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of GBPC’s systems, such as DCS, PLCs, SCADA, RTUS. Other duties of the position include but are not limited to installation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, calibration and repair of electronic, electrical, and pneumatic instruments, meters, and controls; interpretation and preparation of schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made to systems and equipment.

 This position provides guidance and support to the personnel responsible for performing instrument, electrical and control system work.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:  

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

Provide Leadership support by:

  • Ensuring employees and contractors comply with work performance standards and company rules and regulations.
  • Facilitating the planning of unit outages, shutdowns and daily preventative or break down maintenance activities
  • Planning projects to improve company’s assets

Provide administrative support by:

  • Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to
  • Ensuring that management of change process takes place for all field changes and that plant equipment drawings are kept current.
  • Ensuring proper history and record keeping of equipment maintenance
  • Planning work to optimize efficient use of human and other resources.
  • Developing and maintaining, Standard Operating Procedures where necessary
  • Ensuring accurate logging and reporting of paid hours for employees and where necessary, contractors.
  • Participating in root cause analysis investigations
  • Completing safety area inspections as directed

Provide Technical support by:

Instrument

  • Ensuring calibration of all critical and non-critical equipment to prescribed program
  • Maintaining instrument list (serial no, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting and repairing equipment such as transmitters, control valves, actuator valves, loop controllers and others.
  • Installing instruments based on wiring/loop diagrams
  • Preparing instrument datasheet and specifications

Electrical

  • Maintaining electrical equipment list (serial no, etc.)
  • Investigating and preparing reports regarding findings and causes of electrical equipment or system failures
  • Assisting with review of drawings, single line diagrams and three phase drawings.
  • Ensuring electrical installations are done to the required code and wiring schematics.
  • Overseeing installation of electrical work by contractors
  • Troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment and correct electrical issues
  • Troubleshooting electrical systems and participate in root cause analysis

Controls System

  • Reviewing drawings and technical specifications
  • Assisting with maintenance of loop drawings and documentation related to field wiring changes
  • Assisting with improvements, upgrades, and innovations to company’s systems.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing PLC, RTU, DCS, controllers (EPC-60, AVR, Governor, etc.)
  • Configuring and programming industrial controls systems (PLC, RTU, EPC-60, AVR, Governor, etc.)

Provide General Technical support by:

  • Understanding preventative maintenance and ensures work is done in a timely manner to protect the company’s various assets
  • Maintaining equipment to optimize efficiency and availability
  • Planning and assisting in training of maintenance staff
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

Provide Financial Support by:

  • Submitting items for budgetary consideration
  • Facilitating requisitions as necessary

 

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies, job rotations, and cross training.

 

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The  Instrument Electrical Support will have post high school training in Science, Engineering, or related field. They will have 3 years’ experience with instrument, electrical or control systems. They will have DCS and Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programming experience. They will have experience in specifying and/or maintaining field devices and networks. They will be knowledgeable of IEC (European) standard along with ISA (preferred). They will have knowledge of the most recent version of the Canadian Electrical Code. They will be able to read P&I drawings. They will be self- motivated, organized, diplomatic, firm, able to multi-task, and able to assess the nuances of situations, make decisions that align with established company policies.


Other:
