Summary/Position Overview:

The Mechanic I (Energy) leads in assisting with mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance and checks of all plant equipment, including auxiliaries.

 

Position Scope:

 The Mechanic I (Energy) will be responsible for taking the lead in completing routine checks to ensure the mechanical and operational worthiness of plant equipment as directed, ensuring cleanliness of the generating facility, workshop and equipment, and assisting in the repairs and preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment.

 


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards.
  • Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

 

Achieve results by:

  • Demonstrating leadership abilities through directing subordinates when necessary in the performance of their duties
  • Be responsible for the safety and training of subordinates
  • Assisting with the writing of standard maintenance procedures
  • Signing off completed defects and document comments on close out forms
  • Conducting checks and inspections as assigned by Supervisor
  • Overhauling, repairing, replacing, installing and maintaining power equipment and systems including but not limited to boilers, steam turbine, gas turbines, diesel engines, generators and auxiliary equipment
  • Working from manufacturer's instructions, blueprints, manuals or sketches with limited supervision
  • Carrying out pipe fitting, valve overhauls and repair pumps
  • Installing and aligning motors and pumps
  • Repairing and overhauling package boilers and exhaust gas boilers
  • Checking and maintaining equipment lubricant and water levels
  • Cleaning radiators, filters and heat exchangers
  • Repairing and troubleshooting compressors and refrigerated systems
  • Maintaining strainers, piping and components
  • Conducting leak tests and engine performance tests
  • Maintaining drainage systems

    Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies. Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.

     


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Mechanic I (Energy) will have a High School Diploma with BGCSE grades of C or above in English, Mathematics and Science with at least ten (10) year experience as an industrial mechanic conducting mechanic maintenance. They must have working knowledge and understanding of shaft alignment techniques and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems along with extensive proven experience in mechanical maintenance of power plant equipment. They must possess strong communication, documentation, analytical and problem-solving skills; works independently and as part of a team, has the ability to display diplomacy and tact, and is proficient in Microsoft Office.
