Summary/Position Overview:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Engineer II plays a key role in supporting the management and maintenance of Operational Technology and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) (e.g., SCADA, DCS, PLC, etc.) at GBPC. Key responsibilities of this role include designing and administering these systems to meet both operational and technological standards, performing regular maintenance and calibration, as well as programming and system integration. The Engineer II is also responsible for providing engineering and technical support to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the company's control and plant operational systems.
Duties and Tasks:
DUTIES AND TASKS:

Completing all required HSE training.
Contribute to GBPC's strategy and goals by:

Assisting in developing a clear strategy for the design, administration, and maintenance of Industrial Control Systems and Operational Technology.

Assisting in development of road maps for capital upgrades to controls systems, to enhance system performance, improve operations, and modernize the operational systems in alignment with industry best practice.

Assist with the architecture ladder logic and Protection & Control Philosophy schemes.

Assisting with implementing and validating MOC submission.
-
Developing and implementing innovative engineering and technical solutions which support GBPC’s long-term business strategies and goals.
Provide technical leadership by:
-
Managing ICS operations at all GBPC Sites, including data collection and archiving, network infrastructure, system documentation, software updates, system testing and reporting, and policy development.

Programming, integrating, installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting PLC, RTU, and DCS controllers.

Design and programming Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

Administering and managing Data Historians and other data archiving and analytical applications to ensure effective data management.

Ensuring the availability and reliability of DCS & SCADA systems, PLC controllers, and LAN/WAN infrastructure through planned and executed corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance.

Inspecting and testing fire detection and suppression systems, including fire alarms, and water mist systems, to maintain safety standards.

Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices, including cybersecurity protocols to safeguard system integrity against digital threats.

Training technicians & operations staff in operation and maintenance of ICS Systems

Analyzing current processes and systems to recommend and implement improvements, staying ahead of industry trends and developments.

Ability to utilize multi resolution and historical data for analytics and trending/predications.

Keeping up-to-date with evolving technology and practices in the electric power industry

Adhere and execution of operating company regulatory compliance related to system communications and protection.

Ability to utilize ladder and P&C drawings for daily duties and troubleshooting assignments.

Provide assistance with system modeling, event/oscillation visualization, load forecasting, automatic system performance metrics, real-time fuel usage economics overall Plant Production reporting.

Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:
ACADEMIC, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The Engineer II will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with at least three (3) years’ experience in a related field. The Engineer II should have a basic understanding of industrial control systems, automation, and computer networks. Strong technical and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Familiarity with ladder logic, P&C schematics, PLC/DCS hardware/software platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley, and ABB, and experience with HMI/SCADA platforms like OSI, GE, SEL, or Siemens, are a plus.
