Summary/Position Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Working Foreman (Energy) leads the mechanical maintenance team with the mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance and checks of all plant equipment, including auxiliaries.

POSITION SCOPE:

The Working Foreman (Energy) will be responsible for providing leadership and assisting mechanical team in completing routine checks to ensure the mechanical and operational worthiness of plant equipment as directed, ensuring cleanliness of the generating facility, workshop and equipment, and assisting in the repairs and preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment necessary to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable functioning of the generating facilities.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures,
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards,
  • Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
  • Completing all the required HSE training.

Provide Technical Support by:

  • Coordinating work activities of the assigned personnel
  • Participating in effective and efficient planning and usage of resources
  • Preparing maintenance logs and reports and communicating same to the appropriate lead
  • Monitoring and alerting leadership to conditions that may lead to equipment damage or unsafe conditions
  • Working closely with Planning to ensure that priority work is completed safely and on time, rework is monitored and recorded, and feedback to planned activities / work steps are provided to increase quality and reduce rework.
  • Evaluating and reviewing equipment functionality and performance through post maintenance testing.
  • Attending training to update technical skills and learn operation of all equipment on or off-site as required. This training includes, but is not limited to: Safety, Maintenance Fundamentals training, administrative computer systems, Computer Based Training (CBT) and others as needed to perform the job.
  • Assisting in plant maintenance (OJT) On the Job Training to increase personnel work efficiency and assure the necessary skill development of employees.

Achieve Results by:

  • Demonstrating leadership abilities through directing and coaching subordinates, when necessary, in the performance of their duties
  • Contributing to the safety and training of subordinates.
  • Assisting with the writing of standard maintenance procedures.
  • Signing off on completed defects and document comments on close out forms.
  • Conducting checks and inspections as assigned by Manager or leader.
  • Overhauling, repairing, replacing, installing and maintaining power equipment and systems including but not limited to boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, diesel engines, generators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Working from manufacturer's instructions, blueprints, manuals or sketches with no supervision.
  • Carrying out pipe fitting, valve overhauls and pump repairs.
  • Installing/disassembling and aligning motors and pumps.
  • Repairing and overhauling package boilers and exhaust gas boilers.
  • Checking and maintaining equipment lubricant and water levels.
  • Cleaning radiators, filters and heat exchangers.
  • Repairing and troubleshooting compressors and refrigerated systems.
  • Maintaining strainers, drainage systems piping and components.
  • Conducting leak tests and engine performance tests.

Support and Lead Employees by:

  • Directing employee activities and effectively leading performance for high productivity
  • Ensuring team members compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Aiding in the planning of unit outages, shutdowns and daily preventative or corrective maintenance activities
  • Aiding in planning projects that aid in improvement of the plant
  • Acting as Contractor representative for contract workers
  • Leading team in the achievement of company goals, objectives, and strategic plan.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with employees.
  • Working as a member of a team to improve work processes across departmental lines, through problem solving
  • Rotating work tasks and assignments to train and develop flexibility and technical depth in the maintenance organization.

Provide Leadership and Administrative Support by:

  • Conducting performance reviews
  • Ensuring drawings are kept and provided to the mechanical team for all plant equipment maintenance
  • Ensuring a proper history and documentation of the work done on all plant equipment documented and submitted through planning and closeout maintenance processes
  • Logging and reporting time of assigned staff and assisting with vacation scheduling, requisition services, input to planning of maintenance parts and consumable spares, in a timely manner so that jobs are executed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Working in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor, and leaders on staffing requirement input
  • Assisting with preparation of employee development plans, or similar performance maps
  • Maintaining and reviewing of Maintenance and Operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure a consistent work approach

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies. Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned related to availability and reliable generation.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Working Foreman (Energy) will have a High School Diploma or higher, with BGCSE grades of C or above in English, Mathematics and Science with at least ten (10) year experience as an industrial mechanic conducting mechanic maintenance. Preferred work knowledge and understanding of shaft alignment techniques and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems along with extensive proven experience in mechanical maintenance of power plant equipment. They must possess strong communication, documentation, analytical and problem-solving skills; work independently and as part of a team, can display diplomacy and tact, is a team player who has experience with leading team members, and is proficient in Microsoft Office.  They will have a thorough knowledge of maintenance and planning department’s processes.
