Summary/Position Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Energy Maintenance Manager is responsible for the optimization of diesel performance and maintenance to ensure the safe and efficient operation of GBPC's generating facilities.

 

POSITION SCOPE:

They will provide leadership and management to maintenance personnel and train for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of generating units, assuming responsibility for technical evaluation, mechanical methods, and operational performance oversight for the diesel generation fleet.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards.
  • Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
  • Completing all the required HSE training.

Support/ensure efficiency in operations by:

  • Providing guidance and advice to Energy teams in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of assets
  • Developing and overseeing diesel asset performance measures and activities Preparing process performance, efficiency, and other reports as necessary
  • Continually evaluating the quality of diesel operating and maintenance work processes Updating Standard Operation Procedures and Dispatch procedures, and
  • Working with the warehouse to develop best practices and methods of staging parts, based on periodic review of non-inventory materials, parts, and components for future scheduled maintenance.

 Manage aspects of the project life cycle by:

  • Serving as managing oversight for all generation asset preventative and corrective maintenance outages as required in the annual maintenance schedule.

 Effectively supervise staff by:

  • Working with the Director of Energy Maintenance or designee to determine staffing requirements in support of operations and outage schedules.

  • Leading working foremen and maintenance teams; establishing, directing, delegating, and
  • Supporting the work of working foremen and other employees.
  • Leading administrative processes to ensure timely and effective delivery of information, data, documents and other deliverables to internal customers, including, but not limited to vacation schedules, benefits approval, overtime review and approval, budget and expense reviews, security access forms, training plans, and MAPPs.
  • Meeting regularly with reports to provide feedback on performance and development and to solicit input on the progression of departmental goals and plans.
  • Establishing, directing, and supporting the work of employees.
  • Acting as a mentor and providing on the job training to working foremen and other maintenance personnel to support the growth and development of employees and the transfer of institutional and technical knowledge.

 Advance GBPC's strategic initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency in the management of assets by:

  • Actively participating in strategic and long-term maintenance planning
  • Assisting the Director of Maintenance and/or others with the identification of critical parts and suggesting modifications to extend equipment life and reduce maintenance costs
  • Directing internal personnel and processes in the establishment of maintenance work schedules,
  • Prioritizing, and long-term schedules which are based on accepted industrial and engineering practices.
  • Planning, preparing and executing on maintenance and repair activities of the plant in accordance with accepted diesel power plant practices and OEM instructions.
  • Managing planned outages, performing daily surveillance of outage activities, and providing input for the effective and timely return to service from scheduled maintenance and forced outages.
  • Supervising and evaluating engine performance tests
  • Developing and implementing processes to improve equipment availability by monitoring performance metrics such as equivalent availability, Net Capacity Factor, Forced Outage Rates, Personnel Errors, and other measures focused on diesel equipment operation.

 Ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness in documentation processes by:

  • Updating Standard Operation Procedures and Dispatch procedures, and
  • Preparing reports as necessary.

 Seek and implement continuous improvements to technical processes by:

  • Supporting or leading root cause analysis efforts during incident investigations; facilitating structured investigations, collating recommendations and implementing the same.
  • Performing daily routine inspections of diesel units and reporting all abnormalities
  • Examining diesel fuel analyses, lube oil analyses to determine engine condition, and system water analyses to enable prompt action if parameters deviate from the norm.
  •  Supervising and evaluating engine performance tests for optimization of running condition and determining the need for maintenance.

Contribute to team effort by performing related management duties to accomplishthe essential responsibilities.


Maintain current knowledge of industry and company trends, strategies, equipment, and new and evolving technology in the electric power industry.

 


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:
  • The Energy Maintenance Manager will be an effective manager with demonstrated experience in managing budgets and implementing cost saving measures, supervising others, leading teams, organizing work processes, developing operating procedures, communicating effectively both orally and in writing, making decisions, exercising good judgment, assuming responsibility for assigned projects, resolving conflict, solving problems and mediating employee disputes, working harmoniously with and in support of others. He/she will function in a manner consistent with the organization's commitment to excellence and integrity, operating in every instance with a clear acceptance of personal responsibility, accountability, and ethics and will be willing to work flexible hours, with weekends, holidays, and nights as necessary.

The Energy Maintenance Manager should have an earned bachelor’s degree in engineering or the equivalent. A minimum of 5 years at project management level in the planning or maintenance department of an industrial facility or the equivalent.

  • The incumbent for this position will be expected to provide leadership to all direct reports and delegate work and tasks in such a manner that employees will grow in their potential for advancement.
  • The incumbent will be expected to work harmoniously and effectively with peers and in particular with the Resource Management and Dispatch (RMD) staff.
  • The incumbent will need to maintain effective communication with co-workers and upper management.
  • The incumbent will be expected to keep abreast of new and evolving or changing technology in the electric power industry.
  • Perform on-the-job training of other employees.
  • Perform rostered standby duty as engineer responsible for total operation affecting T&D Department.
