Summary/Position Overview:

The Meter Data Management System (MDMS) Operator, operates, monitors, and maintains the MDMS system. He/she provides assistance and support to CIS Billings and the AMI Operator. The operator will assist in conducting analysis and problem identification with the AMI and CIS system.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Ensuring that maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

 

Achieve performance results by:

  • Coordinating metering requirements of operations in conjunction with AMI operator
  • Acting as the first point of contact for all related MDMS issues
  • MDM configuration and data synchronization monitoring and correction between CIS, MDM and AMI Head End System (HES)
  • Monitoring integration between MDM and AMI, MDM and data load and MDM and CIS
  • Monitoring and maintaining AMI Dashboard endpoint status, investigating deployed meters in abnormal states and assigning meters to status groups per utility policy
  • Monitoring endpoint alerts by defining utility policy for action in case of RIS alerts, i.e. RF demand resets failures, unexpected usage, etc. and determining field investigation if necessary
  • Monitoring log viewer events/errors and investigating revenue integrity related events (i.e. Connect/Disconnect Switch Operations Failure) to determines when a field visit is necessary
  • Validating readiness of reads for each billing cycle while monitoring endpoints not being logged and meter exceptions and billing progress reports
  • Process metering data and monitor/execute data validation, estimation and edit (VEE) process.
  • Maintaining firmware/device command write (DCW) version requirements which includes importing firmware/DCW to the AMI HES and downloading firmware/DCW to the appropriate devices
  • Tracking open work / service orders
  • Providing management with daily reads statuses and installation tracking report
  • Create analysis reports identifying failures and gaps and recommend solutions.
  • Determining metering data validation and estimation
  • Ensuring reads are received and processed based on Customer Service Levels
  • Metering data analysis and problem identification (MDM Operator should be the first responsibility for monitoring the endpoints and escalate to the AMI Operator for troubleshooting
  • Monitoring and logging all system defects and tickets
  • Providing basic support for AMI system operations and conducting meter data analysis and problem identification
  • Ability to program and build custom scripts to monitor power system metrics, quickly identify estimations and related telecommunications integrity
  • Creating and assigning service and work orders as necessary
  • Understanding business processes and data needs to meet expected customer service level agreements/requirements
  • Implementing data analysis functions (low/high consumptions, cycle/customer class groups, regulatory performance matrix, etc.)for other groups to visualize and understander data trends for mass data
  • Comprehending GIS, SCADA and OMS data to be in compliance with standard System Operators duties
  • Constantly providing assistance with load forecasting and load growth studies utilizing MDMS data
  • Providing assistance to Network Administrators in application upgrades and patches.
  • Assisting with ensuring data is transferred as programmed to supporting integrating Operational Technology platforms.
  • Supporting in maintaining of processes, existing/integrated systems, procedures, policies and standards to support meter data management functions.

 

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies. Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The MDMS Operator will have an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an industrial environment. He/she will be knowledgeable in company and departmental procedures; metering principles, strong programming capabilities and have a good understanding of SMART Grid and AMI technologies; possess strong communication, documentation, analytical and problem-solving skills; works independently and as part of a team, has the ability to display diplomacy and tact, and is proficient in Microsoft Office.
