The Revenue Protection Investigator is responsible for detecting, investigating and preventing utility fraud, theft, and revenue losses associated with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and traditional metering systems. This role involves field investigations, data analysis and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with utility regulations and policies. They coordinate field investigative reports with law enforcement agencies along with the legal/compliance team to document and prosecute electricity theft cases. They work under close supervision with specific instruction, in order to maintain the required level of competency and confidentiality.
POSITION SCOPE:
The Revenue Protection Investigator conducts investigations into unauthorized use, energy theft and meter tampering. They utilize AMI data, analytics tools and field verification checks to detect irregular consumption patterns and potential fraud. They perform on-site inspections of meters, transformers, and service connections to verify accuracy and integrity. They are responsible for completing field energy audits, identifying damaged or malfunctioning meters, meter testing and the re-sealing of all meter cans. They document findings and prepare comprehensive reports, including photographic and written evidence. They will assist in policy development, regulatory compliance, audit functions, security inquiries, revenue protection, Human Resource protection, as well as assist in gathering and monitoring intelligence as deemed necessary.

The Revenue Protection Investigator will have earned an Associate’s Degree or equivalent in an area of study relevant to this position with a minimum of three (3) years’ metering experience, revenue protection, fraud investigation, or law enforcement. The Revenue Protection Investigator must have thorough knowledge of GBPC’s general Rules and Regulations for Electric Service, and have an understanding of AMI, SCADA and smart metering technology. They will have proficiency in data analysis tools and utility billing systems.
They will be confidential and have demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
They must be able to exhibit effective oral and written communication skills for presentation in court, reports and customer interactions. They should have the ability to work in a collaborative and independent setting and exhibit high professional standards and attention to detail.
Demonstrate skills in customer confrontation under adverse conditions, and interview and interrogation techniques.
A valid drivers’ license is required for this role.
