Summary/Position Overview:

The GIS Support (Temporary) will be responsible for utilizing the capabilities of ESRI ArcGIS application suite, other 3rd party software and a variety of computer hardware devices; perform spatial analysis, field data collection, database management and reporting for supporting projects and various organizational initiatives. This position requires managing the accuracy of geospatial data and ensures that it stays accurate, reliable to assist with planning, decision-making, and project implementation.

 


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:   

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures,
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all the required HSE training.

Maintain responsibility for the on-going spatial data maintenance and end-user support of ESRI ArcGIS application suite by:

  • Providing technical support related to Transmission & Distribution and other asset management systems.
  • Compiling, organizing and managing GIS data from maps, field personnel and other sources.
  • Ability to integrate and coordinate GIS principles to develop GIS products and services,
  • Generate maps and other GIS reports and information products as needed.
  • Managing the conversion, import and export of data in and out of systems.
  • Gathering field data to ensure its accuracy and proper integration into GIS database.
  • Provide GIS training to team members and other departments.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues related to GIS applications and devices.

Provide information for planning and decision making by:

  • Ensuring that all field changes are accurately captured and conform to policies and standard layout in GIS and supporting software.
  • Perform detailed spatial analysis utilizing GIS tools and software to analyze geographic patterns, relationships, and trends.
  • Support project completion by providing spatial insights that help drive informed planning & decision-making.
  • Ensuring that the GIS reflects accurate and up-to-date system configuration.
  • Utilize quality assurance/quality control to reconcile errors, verify the validity of information and assign attributed information as appropriate.

Support operational efficiencies by:

  • Conducting programmatic and manual analysis and creating reports and maps using the data within ArcGIS application suite and other software.
  • Liaising with Control Authority, T&D field operations, Planning and other departments as technical support for the practical application of GIS data for managing customer trouble call information, outage management and communication and real time system configuration and field changes updates.
  • Assist with creating predictive modelling algorithms and tools for vegetation management, natural disaster preparedness and construction design layout.
  • Open to learning and adopting new technologies, such as drone systems, infrared and corona to seamlessly integrate these tools into GIS platforms, enhancing data collection and analytical processes.

Maintain customer service excellence by:

  • Communicating with internal departments to obtain and transmit required information.
  • Perform all work according to established company practices and department standards.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be a detailed-oriented and technically proficient individual with a strong background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and electric utility operations. A degree in a related field and GIS certification are preferred.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with GIS tools and software, including AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Utility Network, MicroStation, and PLSD CAD. Proficiency in drafting using AutoCAD is essential. Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills are required, along with effective written and verbal communication abilities.

The candidate must demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
