Summary/Position Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Sr. Director of Finance & Logistics manages all aspects of the company’s financial health and long-term growth.  They establish and maintain the company’s financial strategy for earning sustainable profits and oversee the finance and accounting operations and financial forecasting services or activities to manage costs and improve accuracy, customer service, or safety.   In addition, this role is responsible for oversight of the corporate Shared Services department; - purchasing, warehousing, distribution, logistics and fleet services, and oversees procedures or opportunities for streamlining activities to meet product distribution needs and direct the movement, storage, or processing of inventory.

POSITION SCOPE:

The Sr. Director of Finance & Logistics will establish and maintain the company’s financial strategy for earnings and oversee the finance and accounting operations and lead the activities of the Shared Services Department, including strategic sourcing, category, and supplier relationship management, procure-to-pay transactional processes, logistics and materials management, and fleet services.  They will manage the accounting and economic aspects of the company by enforcing a financial strategy aimed toward sustainable and profitable long-term growth.  Additional duties include overseeing the finance department, conducting financial assessments, generating reports, establishing company budgets, participating in regulatory strategy and development, and conducting financial risk assessments on business initiatives.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards.
  • Ensuring all employees have access to the tools, resources and training to allow them to excel in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment
  • Completing all required HSE training.

Contribute to strong financial results by:

  • Overseeing the financial operations of the company
  • Developing annual financial plans and projections for the company 
  • Analyzing financial risks and benefits on business initiatives
  • Driving the financial planning of the company by analyzing its performance and risks.
  • Establishing and tracking the annual budget, providing variance and related reports as necessary to meet financial objectives.
  • Managing GBPC’s overall business and execution of its growth strategy – as a member of the Executive team
  • Ensuring the development, review, and execution of long-term strategic plans
  • Supporting development and trending of load growth
  • Compiling all financial matters related to regulatory requirements - including ongoing reporting, rate structure strategies
  • Leading fuel hedging analysis and strategies for fuel purchases
  • Leading strategic analysis, and supporting structuring, negotiating, and financing
  • Ongoing development of process and control environment to keep up with the demands of a complex growing business, and evolving regulatory requirements
  • Supporting the management of cost control strategies for the acquisition of materials, supplies and services at best value for GBPC
  • Supporting the minimization of inventory value consistent with meeting the business needs.
  • Ensuring the company aligns with the Emera and ECI Caribbean financial goals, targets, and objectives. Maintain required financial reporting to Emera, ECI and statutory bodies.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Team

Contribute to GBPCs strategy and goals by:

  • Leading cross functional teams to generate and implement cost saving ideas and implement annual cost savings programs and strategies that directly affect the company’s financial results in a positive way
  • Driving the effective balance to inventory management. Pulling the appropriate levers to assure inventory cost is managed against budget targets, while coordinating with Operations to ensure finished goods inventory can best deliver to customer demand.
  • Leading people and accomplish staff result by developing and implementing the Financial and Shared Services strategic and operational plans and ensuring alignment of individual, and team goals with strategic, corporate, and balanced scorecard goals ensuring accountability of responsibilities and results
  • Leading team to meet the organization expectations for safety and goal accomplishment and reviews performance against objectives, ensuring that employee related matters are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner and that the company’s human resource policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensuring alignment of individual, and team goals with strategic, corporate, and balanced scorecard goals
  • Coaching and supervising staff, included but not limited to training, assigning, and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining.
  • Developing topics for and conducting weekly meetings/monthly meetings with staff as necessary
  • Maintaining upward, lateral, and downward communication within the organization and being receptive to ideas from inter-department and other employees
  • Overseeing the implementation and administration of personnel management programs, including staffing, succession planning, performance evaluation, salary review, and training and development at the facilities
  • Building strong working relationships with the wider finance and shared services group, and ensuring adherence to Emera processes, policies and control environments
  • Supporting the review and completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial, procurement,
  • and warehouse reports

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, maintaining accounting professional development requirements, and participating in professional societies.  Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.

 



Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The preferred candidate will have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, along with at least seven (7) years’ experience in financial management and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in senior supervision or executive management. 

They will have strong business and financial acumen, impeccable mathematics and analytical skills with demonstrated financial capability.  They will be attentive to detail, yet able to summarize and communicate financial information effectively for Management, Executive and Board consumption.  They will be a self-starter with the aptitude to work independently and as part of a team, and exhibit excellent communication, analytical, problem solving, time management, presentation and interpersonal skills. 

They must possess interpersonal and organizational skills, strong leadership skills with demonstrated competencies in conflict resolution, decision making, delegating, supporting, motivating, and challenging employees toward improved performance; and interpret information, develop and implement solutions, and identify creative approaches to problem solving; and strong organizational skills with experience managing resources for complex issues with competing deadlines.
