Summary/Position Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Project Manager plans, organizes, controls and executes large, often complex Projects and supports the administration of the Project Management Process for Grand Bahama Power.  They will act as lead or support to areas of the Grand Bahama Power Company in both tactical and strategic capital project planning, execution and control.  Additionally, the Project will act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in matters of Project Management and/or Project Leadership and assists Engineering, Finance and other Departments in training and development of Project Leads.

 

POSITION SCOPE:

The Project Manager administers the Project Management Process at GBPC and in that capacity will lead the planning, organizing, executing and controlling the GBPC portfolio of capital projects.  The Project Manager acts in a lead role on small, medium, and large-sized projects or in managing a portfolio of projects as required.  This includes the advancement of projects from initiation, through planning, execution, control, and closeout.  The Project Manager is expected to appropriately apply the various processes from each project management knowledge area to ensure that capital plans support the overall objectives of the company.  The Project Manager may be responsible for administering the Project Management Processes, making procedural changes as appropriate, and coaching members of the project team on the elements of effective Project Management.  Additionally, the Project Manager is expected to interface with his/her colleagues and customers in other GBPC departments and will act as subject matter expert in Project Planning, Administration, Execution and Control.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:

  • Supporting planning and execution of Environmental and Safety related tasks in the execution of the Project Management Cycle.
  • Driving opportunities for improvements in Environmental and Safety performance in the execution of Projects.
  • Ensuring compliance to and acting as an advocate for the Contractor Safety Management Program, including, but not limited to conducting Safe Work Practice (SWP) Training and job safety observations, reviewing Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and Risk Assessments, and leading job Briefings.
  • Completing all required HSE training and leading training as appropriate.

Leads safe and effective delivery of projects by:

  • Leading large, complex and/or high-risk projects and portfolios of projects as required, including, but not limited to the effective application of Cost Management, Scope Management, Schedule Management, Procurement, Safety Management, Quality Management, communication and handover
  • Supporting the strategic and tactical planning, execution and control of the Project management Process at GBPC, through oversight of Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) and supporting planning and execution processes (Scope, Design, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Closeout).
  • Leading the preparation of project deliverables including, but not limited to Project Charters, Business Cases, Project management Plans, Conceptual, Preliminary and Detailed Design Packages, Cost Estimates, Quality Management Plans, Safety Management Plans, Risk Management Plans, Change Requests and Registers, Cost Management Deliverables and the “Human Change Management” aspects that a new project may bring.
  • Leading, coordinating and/or liaising with Internal Resources (Project Team, Support Team, Steering Committees, etc.) and External Resources (Customers, Suppliers, Contractors, Consultants, Regulators, etc.) to ensure projects and portfolios achieve GBPC objectives.
  • Driving the project or project portfolio to completion while achieving project objectives (including schedule, cost and scope).
  • Participating in strategy development by providing input into GBPC’s future CAPEX planning.
  • Writing and administration of project contracts, in liaison with GBPC’s Risk and Procurement teams.

Support Engineering Team Effectiveness by:            

  • Providing clear direction and setting performance goals for Capital Plans that are linked to GBPC’s strategy, ensuring accountability of responsibilities and results.
  • Training individuals in Project Management Processes as required.
  • Supporting change through the management of drawing masters as required.
  • Developing, maintaining and communicating project files, drawings and databases and translating them to master files as required.
  • Supporting root cause analyses, investigations, technology transfer and other process improvement initiatives as required.
  • Supporting financial, quality, reliability and safety initiatives by collecting and analyzing Project, Engineering, Maintenance and Operational data and preparing and delivering reports as required.
  • Developing and/or reviewing Project Management related procedures, practices and policies as required.
  • Acting as subject matter expert and providing advice and support to Engineering and Leadership on Project Management related matters.
  • Driving development and continuous improvement of the Project Management Process by collecting Project Data and leading Lessons Learned sessions as required and documenting same for application to future projects.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, engineering conferences, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contributing to team effort by assisting and accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Manage project knowledge by gathering, organizing, recording, sharing and managing project information.

               



Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Project Manager will have Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Sciences, Architecture, Business, Construction Management or other applicable disciplines.  A PMP®, CAPM® or other approved certification in Project Management is desired. They will have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Project Lead, at least two (2) years of which should include directly leading complex interdisciplinary projects with budgets in excess of $500k, in an industrial environment. General knowledge and understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), buildings, civil and structural disciplines is also desired.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in writing and administering ICE or FIDIC Contracts, with strong proficiency in PMI® PMBOK® project management processes and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project. Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to resolve issues decisively and deliver innovative solutions. Experience with AutoCAD® is preferred but not required. A results-oriented mindset with a focus on completing projects on time, within budget, and managing stakeholder expectations is key to success in this role.
