Summary/Position Overview:

The Technician II is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and buildings at the Energy Center of the Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC). Additionally, the Technician II is responsible for accompanying or oversight of Energy contractors and service providers during construction projects, routine, and non-routine maintenance work.

Position Scope:

The Technician II is expected to be proficient in mechanical trades, general construction and act as a crew lead on works within their designated craft. They will perform work in the other trades and services as time, experience and training allows. The Technician II assists the Maintenance Supervisor in planning, execution and control of maintenance works to ensure GBPC Energy Center remains safe, clean, functional, and comfortable.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:   

  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures,
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental and health standards,
  • Ensure maintenance and safety procedures are adhered to, and
  •  Complete all the required HSE training

Key Responsibilities:

Support Facility Maintenance and Logistics Operations by:

  • Performing routine maintenance of buildings, service areas, and utility rooms including basic repairs, cleaning, and upkeep or support of HVAC systems, lighting, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Assisting in maintenance, cleaning and repairs of interior and exterior structures, drainage systems, and walkways.
  • Supporting vegetation control, rust prevention, and minor painting of metal structures and handrails.
  • Receiving, transporting, and organizing materials, tools, and spare parts throughout the plant using appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Assisting maintenance teams with setup, teardown, and cleanup during mechanical, electrical, and civil maintenance activities.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and order of workshops, tool storage areas, and job sites in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Supporting proper disposal of waste, scrap materials, and chemical residues in line with environmental protocols.
  • Participating in emergency drills, confined space entry setups, and fire watch assignments during hot work, where trained and authorized.
  • Performing other general duties as assigned to support energy center operations, including tool tracking, staging of work materials, and basic facility inspection
  • Executing tasks such as general building construction and equipment repair and miscellaneous works.

Provide Technical Support by:

  • Operating mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Performing general carpentry work
  • Removing and/or reinstalling insulation and/or boiler cladding
  • Inspecting and operating rigging and lifting devices.
  • Assisting with mechanical maintenance and balance of plant work
  • Performing fuel handling duties as required
  • Inspecting and maintaining painted exterior and interior surfaces, trimming and fixtures.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops.
  • Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.

Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Technician II will have a will have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in mechanical maintenance or have the equivalent experience in a job training program and have earned a high school diploma and BGCSE certificates in English, Math and Science.
