POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Employee Relations Associate (Temporary) will perform a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as resolving workplace challenges and promoting employee health, equity, and well-being. They will have responsibility for all human relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, performance, health, and productivity.
POSITION SCOPE:
The Employee Relations Associate will have the responsibility of employee engagement and identifying any employment related risk and overseeing any governance for employment related policies. They will assist in handling workplace disputes and innovation as it relates to employee morale. The Employee Relations Associate will work in close collaboration with the Diversity and Inclusion team to ensure inclusivity and the embodiment of Emera’s guiding principles.
The Employee Relations Associate acts as an advisor for the HR team for any aspect of employment related risks, provides oversight and governance for employment related policies, and partners on special projects such as legislative or regulatory change projects. The overall objective of this role is to assist in the development and implementation of workplace policies, programs and enhancements to maintain and increase employee engagement.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, engineering conferences, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
The candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resources Management or relative field. They will have a minimum of three to five (3) years’ experience in HR with a strong emphasis on employee relations or communications. SHRM-CP preferred. They must have a high degree of flexibility; proven ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple complex projects, and to work effectively and efficiently under pressure. They must have the ability to maintain confidentially and handle sensitive situations with impeccable judgment and discretion. The candidate will have the ability to establish trust and credibility, with a familiarity with engagement tools and software, social media, and professional networks. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a good understanding of employment law. Experience working in a unionized environment is not required but preferred.
