The General Labourer supports daily plant operations and maintenance activities by performing manual labour, assisting technicians during inspections and outages, maintaining clean and organized work areas, handling materials and tools, and following all safety procedures. This role helps ensure the power plant operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with operational standards.
POSITION SCOPE:This position is responsible for ensuring GBPC equipment and facilities are kept clean, well-maintained, and in good physical condition.
Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:- Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures,- Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and- Completing all the required HSE training.
Maintain buildings and grounds by:- Supporting general site housekeeping, including clearing debris, organizing work areas, and assisting with equipment wash-downs.- Helping with light building repairs such as patching surfaces, replacing minor fixtures, and supporting repainting activities.- Assisting trades staff with basic carpentry tasks (cutting materials, holding components in place, preparing work areas, assembling simple structures).- Providing labour support for insulation work, including preparing materials, removing old insulation, and assisting installers as directed.- Helping with routine energy grounds upkeep by reporting leaks, replacing simple plumbing fittings, and supporting energy asset crews during minor repairs.- Performing groundskeeping tasks such as trimming, raking, and maintaining outdoor areas using basic tools.- Assisting with safe disposing of waste.
Maintain equipment by:- Helping operators and mechanics with equipment positioning, tool retrieval, and general setup/cleanup during maintenance tasks.- Performing simple lubrication and cleaning tasks under supervision to keep plant equipment in workable condition.- Supporting diesel engine and plant maintenance crews by carrying materials, preparing work areas, and performing basic mechanical helper tasks.- Support environmental, auxiliary and material clean up response actions.
Contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned and communicating effectively with coworkers and upper management any abnormalities with.
The General Labourer will have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in industrial plants or facilities or have the equivalent experience in a job training program and have earned a high school diploma and minimum 3 BGCSE certificates.
