Summary/Position Overview:

A vacancy exists in the Energy Department of the Grand Bahama Power Company for Two Mechanic Operators. All qualified and interested employees are encouraged to apply.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Mechanic Operator supports the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of GBPC Energy Center. They must be flexible and versatile and willing to work and perform the duties of a rotational shift system or days as needed.

POSITION SCOPE:

This position involves operational and mechanical fault finding, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and monitoring of all equipment, piping, and valves.


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

Maintain operational support by:

  • Operating all power plant equipment safely, efficiently, and reliably including but not limited to:
  • Monitoring and recording power plant variables at required intervals and interpreting data.
  • Recording and reporting equipment defects in the Maintenance Management System.
  • Reporting changes in power plant equipment to control room staff.
  • Maintaining sufficient and correct lubrication to the bearings of the equipment in operation.
  • Keeping equipment and areas clean.
  • Cleaning and changing filters and strainers.
  • Checking for condensate build-up in air system.
  • Performing routine Fire System Testing.
  • Testing and monitoring of engine cooling water.
  • Testing and monitoring of boiler feed water and condensate.
  • Testing and monitoring of lube and fuel oil.
  • LOTO procedure execution.
  • Oil Movements.
  • Cleaning and maintaining fuel treatment plant.
  • Testing of air quality.
  • Assisting with writing procedures and preparation of events reports.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of engines when required.
  • Wet and Dry cleaning of turbochargers.
  • Black start generator testing.
  • BESS operations.
  • Unit Dispatching.
  • Grid Operations.
  • PV Integration.
  • SCADA Operations
  •  Alarm Management and rationalization.
  • Generation Performance Reporting.
  • Following all SOPs, as it relates to the task being undertaken.
  • Performing other operational tasks as directed.

Maintain maintenance support by:

  • Maintaining technical documentation, drawings, and instruction books.
  • Signing off on completed clearances.
  • Assisting in root cause analysis of failures.
  • Assisting with job planning and securing necessary tools and materials.
  • Working from manufacturer’s instructions, blueprints, manuals, or sketches with limited supervision.
  • Checking lubricants, water levels and lube oil coolers.
  • Maintaining strainers, piping, and components.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge of the latest operating and maintenance procedures in the electric power industry by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies. Participating in Annual Performance Appraisal Program (MAPP). Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.




Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Mechanic Operator will have an earned a high school diploma and BGCSE certificates in English, Math and Science and will be effective in establishing working relationships with all team members and employees. They will be able to analyze details, communicate effectively, initiate, and assume personal responsibility for work. They will work independently, and as part of a team, solve problems and engage in collaborative decision making for continuous improvement. They will assist with training as needed as well as operate machinery such as vacuum truck when necessary. Additionally, they will have the ability to read technical drawings, piping, and instrumentation schematics.

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in maintenance or have City Guilds of London Diesel Operators Certificate is desired but not required.
