System Planning Analyst

Summary/Position Overview:

The System Planning Analyst is a critical component in shaping strategic ection and enacting operational efficiency by heavily referencing analytical and forecasting elements. The role carefully examines pre- and post-data to predict outcomes, improve holistic node performance, create behavioral patterns and maintain digital legacies.  


Duties and Tasks:

Maintain health, safety and environmental standards by:    

 

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

 

Provide economic operational support by:

 

  • Collecting, validating, analyzing and interpreting patterns and trends in complex quantitative and qualitative data from system platforms, historical repository and external sources.
  • Fabricating situational analyses, sensitivity studies, and “what-if” simulations to evaluate impacts of operations, outages and capital investments.
  • Supporting capital planning and business case development to output benefit realizations, cost-benefit, ROI and TCO.
  • Participating in project governance, risk assessments, and post implementation review.
  • Preparing detailed reports summarizing energy optimization financial analysis findings and recommendations.
  • Developing and maintaining in-house models to evaluate financial opportunities for the energy transition.
  • Issuing performance metrics for all forecast models to output forecast accuracy vs. Actuals.
  • Creating time of use (TOU) methods to shift energy consumptions.
  • Conducting energy audits and construct models to issue impact of energy-savings initiatives.
  • Issuing daily, weekly, and monthly system economic evaluations.
  • Supporting long-term development of system plans, performance reports and resource procurement activities.
  • Supporting benchmark for operational finance reserve margin.

Provide planning operational support by:

  • Supporting unit commitment, next day energy schedule and hourly energy forecast assignments.
  • Leading the channel for data collection assignments for critical commercial and industrial customers.
  • Analyzing and assisting with developing optimized daily operational plans.
  • Developing and issuing fuel consumption forecast.
  • Conducting short term examinations to create energy resource utilization structures, adequacy scenarios and contingencies.
  • Analyzing delivered outage planning assignment, assess system capability, and support real-time operations and security constrained economic dispatch.
  • Evaluating the impact of new or modified customer connections and generations on the grid.
  • Developing, reporting and maintaining models and forecast for losses, capacity, cost demand, load, emissions, resources utilization and performance.
  • Producing planning documents, system maps, reports, dashboards and technical summaries for technical and nontechnical customers.

Maintaining professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

Maintain knowledge of business suited platforms, industry trends, best application analyze practices and other technologies.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results/ tasks as needed.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Statistics or Operations Research an ABET accredited program or related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in production cost modeling, system planning, economic dispatch, capacity planning, operations analysis, impact studies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of algorithms, operational codes, trending analysis and procedures.
  • Strong quantitative and, modeling skills in Excel, MATLAB, MiniTab, SQL, Python or other specialized planning tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based platforms or enterprise planning software.
  • Experience with simulation tools, optimization solvers or GIS (spatial planning roles)

Obtain strong technical, data modeling, data visualization, artificial intelligence, complex calculations/metrics, power query, programming problem solving, analytical and presentation skills.
