Summary/Position Overview:

 The Engineering Manager will lead the Customer Operations focused technical support and leadership to general operations, maintenance, and capital projects for Customer Operations work groups. They will carry out tasks associated with improving the transmission and distribution system, reducing outages and improving T&D system performance. They will also have a critical focus on the teams and people they lead, safety, development, communication, performance and productivity and support of their employees’ key accountabilities.


Duties and Tasks:

Provide leadership to maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Establishing maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.
  • Developing standard operating procedures for safety and environment policies

Achieve results by:

  • Support the execution of designing, developing and supervising the installation of electrical equipment, components or systems for residential, commercial, industrial or utility use
  • Leading the development and communication of the Engineering work plan
  • Ensuring the documenting and root cause of T&D caused outages
  • Trending and forecasting of system duration and system frequency performance statistics
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of technical inspection programs and processes to identify deficiencies
  • Ensure proper planning and execution of system outages
  • Support the restoration of T&D feeder outages
  • Scheduling and prioritizing T&D projects to improve performance of the system
  • Ensuring the completion of T&D Substation and Infrastructure Insurance corrective actions
  • Ensuring the sustainable tracking of system changes
  • Ensuring understanding and compliance to the LOTO processes
  • Providing supervision and support for the technical service activities associated with substations, power systems, high voltage, medium voltage, low voltage, switchgear and electrical distribution in the Customer Operations team

Lead people and accomplish staff results by:

  • Supervising the engineering, technical, and system operators’ activities and training initiatives
  • Developing and administering policies and procedures for Customer Operations activities.
  • Coordinating and provide safety training for new hires and refresher courses for all employees
  • Delegating work and tasks when necessary for the development of staff.
  • Maintaining effective communication with subordinates and T&D management.
  • Providing clear direction and sets performance goals that are linked to overall company strategy for direct reports, ensuring accountability of responsibilities and results.
  • Ensuring employee time and work priorities, establishing work and vacation schedules and reviewing and approving time sheets are managed.
  • Mentoring and coaching employees for improved performance and career enrichment
  • Providing coaching in the review and development of switching procedures
  • Ensuring capital projects and investments are well planned and executed and provide the maximum benefit

Ensure operational efficiency by:

  • Reviewing the resource allocation and work management process to find efficiencies and manage changes for further optimization by making recommendations

  • Keeping abreast of new and evolving technology and maintenance techniques in the field of power and energy measurement and make recommendations for change.

  • Identifying ways to improve the system and reduce/mitigate system losses

  • Investigating equipment failures to determine root cause and appropriate modifications to prevent recurrence

  • Monitoring the system performance of T&D relative to availability and efficiency

Achieve financial results by:

  • Controlling O&M costs, ensuring that projects and routine works scope remain on schedule and on budget.
  • Leading and directing the team in Completing financial and work planning forecasts and ensuring diligence and accuracy in the completion of purchase requisitions.
  • Seek and implement continuous improvements to technical processes by:
  • Leading the development of departmental policies, plans and procedures and providing feedback to leaders and employees on opportunities for development.

 

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.

 

Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited (or equivalent) program, with at least six years of engineering experience in an industrial environment. Proven experience delivering capital projects with budgets exceeding $500K. Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred. Strong working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and practices related to transmission and distribution systems. Proficient in reading P&IDs, process flow diagrams, single-line, and schematic drawings. Demonstrated commitment to safety, including solid knowledge of Lock Out/Tag Out practices. Brings strong technical, analytical, presentation, and project management skills, with a solid grasp of general engineering processes.
