POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Safety Compliance Specialist has primary responsibility for planning, developing, administering and controlling the GBPC Safety Management System and providing support for on Environmental Management
Systems as required. In this capacity the Safety Compliance Specialist develops policies and procedures, oversees programs, develops and administers training programs, leads and supports audit teams, advocates
for Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and assists in driving GBPC toward development of a World Class Safety Culture.
POSITION SCOPE:
This position plans, develops, administers and controls safety management systems at GBPC to ensure compliance. The incumbent works closely with the HSE Director, Environmental Compliance Specialist, Operational leads, Affiliate Safety professionals and other stakeholders to ensure GBPC compliance to best practices in Health, Safety and the Environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY BY:
Leading the development and oversight of Safety and Occupational health management systems, polices, procedures, programs and initiatives.
Acting as subject matter expert on matters related to Safety, Occupational Health and Emergency Preparedness and Response
Providing back-up and support for the development and administration of Environmental management systems, policies, procedures and initiatives.
Providing support and guidance to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) and Safety Leadership Committees and other employee Safety Engagement groups.
Advising HSE Director on departmental programs and policy matters to ensure compliance to applicable laws, regulations, standards and guidelines related to HS&E.
DUTIES AND TASKS ARE TO:
Leading the development, administration and maintenance of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Occupational Health Management Systems
Supporting the development, administration and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Emergency Response Planning
Ensuring consistency and sustainability of Health and Safety policies, procedures and practices at GBPC.
Liaising with affiliate and corporate Health and Safety professionals to ensure the sharing of knowledge and best practices with respect to SMS.
Developing and administering safety training programs and, where appropriate, provides training to employees and trainers in Safety related topics.
Developing and administering Safety Inspection and Safety Audit programs
Leading and/or supports Incident Reporting, Investigation and Management process, including the development and execution of corrective action plans.
Leading and/or supporting the development and administration of the Contractor Safety Management Process, including training, auditing and administration
Representing GBPC to external organizations and stakeholders on HS&E Matters, as required and directed.
Acting as project lead on HS&E related projects and programs, including scope, cost and schedule management activities.
Providing support to projects on HS&E matters as required.
Providing coaching, coordination, development and oversight of HS&E staff as required.
Supporting leadership in planning and development, execution and control of Safety in all aspects of the business, including acting as Subject Matter Expert in the SMS.
Providing advice and support to HSE Director on process, policy and program matters related to Health and Safety to ensure compliance to Departmental goals and plans.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies, job rotations, and cross training.
The Safety Compliance Specialist will have an earned college degree in engineering, science, technical, operational or business or equivalent, along with five years’ experience, in industrial, commercial or Governmental agency with at least one (1) being at a, coordination or lead position, in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental or related area. He/she will demonstrate commitment to world-class safety performance, with a firm belief that all injuries are preventable.
The Safety Compliance Specialist will possess strong planning, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal), strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work individually and harmoniously and effectively with peers, and senior leaders. He/she will be knowledgeable in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CSA and/or OSHA and/or ISO 19000 and/or other International Safety Standards.
Professional Certification in Safety (CSP or CUSP), Industrial Hygiene (CIH) or Environmental Sciences (CEP) desired, but not required.
