Summary/Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for, but not limited to, general ledger accountability and financial reporting, as well as financial profitability analysis and other special projects.  They will report to the Financial Controller or his/her designee and plays an integral role in ensuring that all of the Accounting Department deliverables comply with regulatory guidance and professional standards.


Duties and Tasks:

The Senior Accountant will ensure proper management of The Company’s larger cost centers in all financial aspects, in addition to providing guidance and information to the operating leads for proper decision making.

 

They will:

 

Maintain health, safety and environment standards by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental and health standards, and
  • Completing all required HSE training.

 

Accomplish staff results by:

  • Communicating job expectations, planning, scheduling and monitoring the work of support staff, providing direction, motivation and support as needed.

 

Achieve financial objectives by:

  • Ensuring accuracy in financial reporting through the
  • Facilitation and completion of monthly close procedures.
  • Preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
  • Monthly analysis of revenues, commissions, and expenses to ensure accuracy in recording.
  • Monthly analysis of financial statements, variances and reconciliation of discrepancies.
  • Providing information for financial planning through the:
  • Preparation of financial meeting material, and
  • Documentation of various system and process enhancements.
  • Implementing improved financial planning and control processes, including the:
  • Documentation and monitoring of internal controls.

 

Maintain company’s reputation by:

  • Assisting with the execution and integrity of internal financial audits, and
  • Assisting with corporate reporting requirements.

 

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.

 

Contribute to team effort by completing other duties as assigned.


Academic/Skill/Experience Requirements:

The Senior Accountant will be able to multi-task, effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment; work independently and as part of a team, taking on new tasks with high level of difficulty; initiate and assume personal responsibility for work, requiring minimal up-front guidance and taking ownership of their work product; and develop relationships with key stakeholders, working closely with all major functional leaders of the Company.

They will have an earned bachelor’s degree (its equivalent or higher qualification) in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited university; five (5) years of progressive experience in the accounting profession; strong understanding of accounting theory (GAAP and IFRS); strong analytical and accounting skills; intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages; and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
