Transport Officer

JOB SUMMARY:   Transports and guard inmates in transit between the Livingston County Jail and other locations in accordance with established regulations and procedures. 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Monitor conduct of inmates in transit according to established policies, regulations, and procedures, to prevent escape or violence.
  2. Inspect conditions of the transport vehicle prior to use to ensure security and help prevent escapes.
  3. Use weapons, handcuffs, and physical force to maintain discipline and order among inmates. Must pass the Livingston County Sheriff’s department weapons qualifications.
  4. Maintain records of inmates’ identification and charges.
  5. Provide to supervisors oral and written reports of inmate disturbances and rule violations, and unusual occurrences.
  6. Participate in required job training.
  7. Drive County owned vehicles used to transport inmates to other institutions, courtrooms, hospitals, and work sites.
  8. Use non-disciplinary tools and equipment such as a computer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

     Education and Experience:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Illinois State Training Board Certified Law Enforcement or Corrections Officer.
