Facility Tech Assistant

Definition:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, will provide regular and daily general maintenance activities, emergency repairs, and special projects and services for the Head Start/Early Head Start Program as assigned. This includes indoor and outdoor facilities upkeep at the administration office and all sites.the MAAC centers. This includes indoor and outdoor facilities upkeep at the administration offices and all sites as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

  • Assist in general non-technical repairs, painting, maintenance of equipment and grounds under lease to or operated by MAAC Head Start/Early Head Start.
  • Assist with the upkeep of facilities, grounds and playgrounds for the sites and administration office
  • Provide timely and prioritized responses to assigned work order requests
  • Utilize the general maintenance plan, as outlined in the annual goals and objectives statement
  • Document accurate and current records of maintenance operations
  • Propose cost and time estimates for projects from request to completion
  • Maintain an organized warehouse area, storage supplies, tools and equipment
  • Ensure safety of the children and staff at sites by providing supplies and materials setup of same as necessary to maintain a safe physical environment
  • Provide additional support for the set-up and closeout of sites
  • Participate in the agency’s program for volunteers to assist in general and special maintenance and special efforts, including, but not limited to “Hands on San Diego,” parent volunteer days, etc.
  • Maintain effective and cooperative relations with staff, parents, and volunteers
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills/Education/Experience/Certification:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Trade/vocational units (12) preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a full-time general facility maintenance position within the last four years, including such tasks as carpentry, painting and landscaping
Must have a physical examination, TB and vaccination clearance as required by state and federal regulations and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC prior to the first day of employment. 

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, techniques, materials and equipment for facility maintenance, landscaping, renovation, and repair
  • Work and safety procedures
