POSITION SUMMARY

 

Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation, education, counseling, treatment planning, referral, and behavioral health services for individuals who require services due to behavioral health and substance use related issues. This position is required to support Itinerant Behavioral Health, Prevention and Support services through coordination, communication and local input with local and regional agencies to promote healthy lifestyles. Receives supervision and reports directly to the Substance Treatment Supervisor or designee.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.       Provides individual, family, and group counseling to assigned clients/family members.

2.       Develops, maintains, and records individualized client treatment plans, progress notes, transition/discharge summaries, and demographic information.

3.       Coordinates, supports, and assists mental health, substance abuse and health professionals to advocate for client’s needs.

4.       Provides continued care to village residents who return to their communities from other agencies (substance abuse treatment programs, family services, mental health programs, jail, etc.) with assistance from appropriate staff.

5.       Provides supportive generalist behavioral health counseling to village residents.

6.       Relates, communicates and works regularly with Elders, Tribal Government officials, community leaders, school principals & teachers, village youth, ministers and other health and social care workers to develop and implement a wellness plan for the village.

7.       Provides case management/file documentation for individual caseload, noting all treatment related activities and services in an accurate, professional, and timely manner.

8.       Conducts as needed accurate assessment documentation including HIV/AIDS risk assessment, State of Alaska TBI Inventory and Client Data Form, accurate and completed ROI.

9.       Organizes and supports community programs that promote healthy activities.

10.    Participates in on-call, as needed.

11.    Participates in weekly staff meetings, conference calls, in-service, and staff training.

12.    Delivers social services that are aligned with Inupiaq cultural values and modern counseling techniques.

13.    Supports community Wellness by role modeling.

14.    Abides by the NAADAC ethical standards as adopted by the Alaska Commission for Chemical Dependency Professionals Certification, BHS Staff Code of Conduct.

15.    Provides relapse prevention services with clients, families and support networks (AA/NA, etc.).

16.    Flies in small planes to villages and travel by snow machine and other non-traditional means, as needed.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Behavioral Health Aide Trainee (Range 13 Step 4):

High School diploma or equivalent.  Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.  Familiar with the local community.  Alaska driver’s license within six (6) months of hire with a good enough driving record to be covered by Maniilaq Association Vehicle insurance is preferred. Behavioral Health Aide Certification within 2 years of hire.  

 

Additional Compensation under BHA Trainee:

An additional 3 steps will be awarded to a BHA Trainee who obtains their Counselor Technician Certification (CTC)

 

Behavioral Health Aide I (Range 14 Step 10):

Meets the requirements of a BHA Trainee above PLUS, a certification as a BHA I.

 

 

 

Behavioral Health Aide II (Range 15 Step 13):

Meets the requirements above, and has been certified as a BHA II.

 

Behavioral Health Aide III (Range 15 Step 16)

Meets the requirements of all of the above PLUS, has been certified as a BHA III.

 

Behavioral Health Aide Practitioner (Range 15 Step 19)

Meets the requirements of a BHA III, above PLUS, has been certified as a BHA/P.
