POSITION SUMMARY
To help maintain the physical condition of buildings within Housing and Extended Facilities Department in operating condition.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of flooring, doors frames, doors, window frames,
Staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements.
2. Does all carpentry/painting repair work as assigned.
3. Prepares and paints as needed.
4. Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on the proper use and care of hand tools (such as hammers, saws, chisels, planes), equipment (power saws, drills, rivet guns), hardware (nails, screws, glue), and materials (lumber, acoustical tiles).
5. Works with the Housing and Extended Facilities Supervisors in estimating costs of carpentry repair projects in terms of labor and materials. Also sketch out and does material takeoffs on small carpentry remodeling projects.
6. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase.
7. Inspects facilities on a regular basis for purposes of life and health safety, and preventive maintenance.
8. Repairs, refinishes, and replaces cabinets and furniture as required.
9. Shall alternate on call duties with other Housing and Extended Facilities employees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Carpenter/Painter I (Range 13):
Formal apprenticeship training or 1 year carpenter experience. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Knowledge or training in the safe application of paint. Must show competence in the carpenter trade. Must possess current Alaska driver's license and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles or obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
Carpenter/Painter II (Range 14):
Formal apprenticeship training or 3 years carpenter experience. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Knowledge or training in the safe application of paint. Must show competence in the carpenter trade. Must possess current Alaska driver's license and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles or obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
Carpenter/Painter III (Range 15):
Formal apprenticeship training or 5 years carpenter experience. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Knowledge or training in the safe application of paint. Must show competence in the carpenter trade. Must possess current Alaska driver's license and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles or obtainment of license within 90 days of hire.
