POSITION SUMMARY
The Family Caseworker provide child protective services case management and foster care support in the Maniilaq service area in collaboration with the Alaska Office of Children’s Services(OCS) and in accordance with the Indian Child Welfare Act. Reports directly to the Director of Tribal Assistance Programs. This a grant funded position, subject to annual review pending appropriate funding levels.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists OCS in developing case plans with parents and permanency planning for children.
2. Performs ongoing casework for families whose children are in OCS custody or at risk of being taken into state custody.
3. Attends court hearings and makes recommendations to the courts as requested.
4. Attends case reviews/permanency planning, staffing meetings, 6-month reviews, and other meetings pertaining to case management.
5. Travels to assigned villages in the region to complete home visits, recruit foster parents, complete home studies, complete a variety of paperwork associated with guardianships and adoptions, and other case management duties.
6. Assist Families with Foster Care application, home inspection, and safety requirements, takes fingerprints for background investigation, and submits all documents to State of Alaska.
7. Completes all paperwork and filing associated with ongoing casework while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
8. Transports or Escorts children to foster care placements, medical appointments, visitations, etc.
9. Reports belief of harm cases to OCS.
10. Maintains a commitment to professional development and growth.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Family Caseworker I:
High school diploma or equivalent. One-year work experience in a human services or related field. Familiarity with the Maniilaq service area, its culture, people, and ability to speak Inupiaq desirable. Criminal history that shows no felonies or abuse of children of any kind. Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles.
