POSITION SUMMARY

The IS Network Specialist’s role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT assets.  The Network Specialist will also schedule and direct the activities of a team of IT Technicians to resolve end user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.       Plan, acquire, and coordinate the installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organization’s network.

2.       Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network performance statistics and reports.

3.       Manage and ensure effectiveness of servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers, and their associated operating systems and software.

4.       Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPS, etc.

5.       Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, and intrusion detection systems.

6.       Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

7.       Establish service level agreements with end users.

8.       Approve and administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

9.       Direct and administrate a contingent plan of IT security and technicians, and where necessary, conduct performance reviews and corrective action.

10.    Will assure that there is coverage of network systems at all times.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Network Specialist I:

AA/BA in the field of computer science and/or two years equivalent work experience.  Certifications in MCSA, Network +, A+, and Cisco preferred.   Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

 

Network Specialist II:

All requirements of Network Specialist I. AA/BA in the field of computer science and/or four years equivalent work experience. Certifications in MCSE and/or MCITP preferred.

 

Network Specialist III:

All requirements of Network Specialist II. Four years experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.  Certified in MCSE and/or MCITP preferred.
