POSITION SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the accomplishment of clinical program goals and objectives as outlined in the current departmental scope of work. Will oversee clinical care aspects of the dental program.  Responsible for clinical quality assurance and peer review. Performs dental services in Kotzebue and in the villages of the Maniilaq service area. Reports directly to the Dental Clinic Manager.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Identifies clinical needs for training, equipment, supplies, staffing levels and supports staff as required to accomplish the department's scope of work.

2. Performs a full range of dental services at the dental clinic at Maniilaq Health Center and on a periodic basis in the villages or the Maniilaq Service Area.

3. Participates in the assessment, planning, and implementation of preventative, palliative, and restorative dental care programs that most effectively and efficiently utilize the resources available to the dental program.

4. Participates in the development and implementation of programs to maximize the recovery of third-party payment for dental services provided, and to assure the quality and appropriateness of dental services.

5.  Serves on committees as assigned. Required to sit on the Medical Executive Staff if position available.

6.  Assists the Dental Clinic Manager in budgetary concerns and insuring that budget goals are met.

7. Responsible for the accomplishment of program goals and objectives as outlined in the current departmental scope of work.  Reports on the progress toward achievement of goals and objectives to the Dental Clinic Manager.

8.  Assist the Dental Clinic Manager in reviewing policies and procedures for the dental department.

9.  Coordinates the clinical activities of the dental programs with other hospital departments and Maniilaq Association programs.

10.  Responsible for meeting clinical guidelines for peer review standards.  Insures dentists are current on all continuing education requirements.  Performs case management/patient follow-up on clinical services provided, specifically in chronic disease states.  Assist in orientation of new clinical staff. 

11. Share ER on-call duties, as well as weekend and holiday duties with other dentist.

 

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.  Licensure to perform dental services in the State of Alaska, or waiver thereof.  Minimum two (2) years experience in administration and supervision of a multi-dentist clinic.  Eligibility for membership on medical staff of Maniilaq Health Center. Ability and willingness to work independently and in a variety of setting including the dental clinic and in remote villages using portable dental equipment. Must be willing and able to travel in small airplanes ad carry at least 40 pounds of luggage.
