POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direction of the Community Health Aide Program Manager and under the clinical oversight of the Medical Director, is responsible for ensuring high quality patient care at village clinics through training and clinical supervision of Maniilaq Community Health Aide Practitioners (CHA/P).  Facilitates teamwork throughout CHAP and fosters understanding between Medical Staff and CHAP.  Also facilitates positive interaction between each clinic team and their customer/suppliers. This position routinely travels to villages.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.        Responsible for the initial and re-credential of CHPs; conducting CHP preceptorships and submitting required paperwork.

2.        Makes one visit to each village per year to accomplish training and support activities.

3.        Reviews patient encounter forms (PEFs) from CHA/Ps in current training: Monitors thoroughness of documentation and practices within scope and correct use of medical standing orders (MSOs).

4.        Responsible for grading, processing, and filing MSO tests.

5.        Shared responsibility with Coordinator/Instructors to develop appropriate training curricula and deliver courses for CME.

6.        Assists with the development, approval, instruction and implementation of advanced skills for health aides.

7.        Conducts re-entries and biennial skills evaluations according to CHAPCB Standards and Procedures.

8.        Develops the internal capacity of CHAP by vetting trainers to perform re-entries and biennial skills evaluations.

9.        Assists with the instruction of Pre-session and Basic Training Sessions in support of CHAP Training Centers.

10.     Participates in multi-disciplinary work teams.

11.     Serves as a liaison between CHAP and Medical Staff, teaching and promoting understanding between providers.

12.     Assists with the (re)certification of Maniilaq CHA/Ps.

13.     Maintains contact with assigned village clinics.  Models above the line behavior and communicates/interacts with City and IRA offices regarding clinic issues as necessary.

14.     Participates in CHAP service team plan: including planning, monitoring, and data collection.

15.     Maintains clinical proficiency to level of training and current Medical Staff privileges and standards for Advanced Practice Providers.

16.     Participate in statewide CHAP Program efforts that affect Maniilaq CHP’s, on one or more of the following:

a.        Academic Review Committee (ARC).

b.        CHAM Revision Committee.

c.        CHAP Training Center Review & Approval Committee (RAC).

17.     Performs on-call duties as needed.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner licensed in Alaska, with 10 years of clinical experience.  Experience with CHAP Program preferred.  Teaching experience preferred.  Knowledge of Inupiaq culture, language, and customs preferred.  Must be innovative and open to new ideas. Have a positive outlook and be able to interact with a diverse group of customers/suppliers.  Dependable, open, honest, willing to take that extra minute to give feedback in a warm and caring way.
