POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under general supervision, oversees departmental technical services of the clinical processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory testing and analysis, and performs a full range of laboratory testing services.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Performs a full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services.  Provides specialized expertise in the all areas of the laboratory.  Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements as required by CLIA ’88 and The Joint Commission.
  2. Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy. Performs instrument and analyzer records review. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results. Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments and troubleshoots problems.  Performs as a designated “Key Operator” on all equipment in the laboratory. 
  3. Oversees and reviews instrument maintenance processes and calibrations, QC operations, inventory control processes, and correlation and linearity studies.  Participates in quality assurance initiatives.
  4. Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory. Serves as resource and content expert for staff and healthcare providers.  Trains new employees and current laboratory staff, and assures that all training documentation is completed. Participates in continuing education programs.
  5. Maintains adequate supply and reagent inventory levels.
  6. Shares on-call and weekend coverage on a rotational basis. Responds to internal/external disasters as needed.
  7. Is clear and concise, both verbally and in writing when communicating with staff and the public. Builds effective, supportive relationships with co-workers and internal/external customers. Uses positive interpersonal skills to promote success of team members and promote laboratory and health center goals.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related Life Science field from an accredited institution.  MT (ASCP) registry, or certification as Clinical Laboratory Scientist by NCA or MT (AMT); or obtain within 6 months of hire. Two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience.
