POSITION SUMMARY

 

Performs administrative support to the Maniilaq Association Cooperative Agreement with Western Arctic National Parklands. Performs all tasks associated with supporting NPS staff in gathering and preserving subsistence related information and traditional knowledge from local hunters/gatherers.  Works under the general supervision of Director of Tribal Government Services as well as with special supervision from National Park Service partners.

 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assists the Director of Tribal Government Services as well as the National Park Service partners in records keeping related to the Subsistence Resource Commission (SRC) and Cooperative Agreement.
  2. Reviewing files & records of past Subsistence Resource Commission meetings and actions and develop a summary document the groups’ progress and actions.
  3. Works with Subsistence Coordinator on projects such as: transcriptions of interviews with elders and data organizing from recent placenames work.
  4. Staff and operate the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center (NAHC); engage and inform visitors to the NAHC and the greater region regarding park subsistence resources & facilities; provide orientation to Kotzebue, park units associated with WEAR, and the greater region
  5. Work may be performed off-site of Maniilaq Association and/or NPS offices. Possible fieldtrips into the Natiparklands may occur as well. If under 18, parental consent and Maniilaq consent will be obtained.
Job Qualifications:

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Previous administrative experience preferred. Must be able to work with little supervision. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must have experience using Microsoft Word and Excel software programs.
