POSITION SUMMARY

The Integrated Care Pain Management Therapist will solely provide services to eligible beneficiaries of the Maniilaq Service Region. The Integrated Pain Management Therapist is dedicated to delivering specialized therapeutic services and expert guidance for pain management initiatives in rural/remote Alaska. This position promotes holistic recovery by addressing the complex relationship between pain, trauma, mental health, and substance use. Responsibilities include providing same-day and limited services in various healthcare settings, ensuring low-barrier access to care. The Clinician supports a continuum of care, covering prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services. This position reports to the Integrated Care Clinical Supervisor.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Diagnose, substance use, and mental health disorders using standardized assessment tools.
  2. Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based interventions like CBT, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing.
  3. Provide individual, group, and family therapy, as well as crisis interventions to help clients develop coping mechanisms and resilience.
  4. Advocate for clients' needs within the healthcare system and connect them with additional resources, such as housing, employment, and legal aid, as well as make referrals to other Maniilaq and non-Maniilaq programs.
  5. Maintain patient confidentiality and advocate for client needs within the healthcare system.
  6. Participate in clinical consultations and interdisciplinary team meetings for coordinated care.
  7. Design and implement pain management and trauma-informed care programs, monitoring their effectiveness.
  8. Conduct community presentations to raise awareness of pain management and mental health issues.
  9. Offer critical incident debriefing to manage the psychological impact of traumatic events.
  10. Perform behavioral health, substance use, and social needs assessments in various medical settings.
  11. Deliver brief interventions and referrals to treatment, addressing behavioral health and substance abuse needs.
  12. Connect patients to social and tribal services to address relevant social needs.
  13. Participate in the crisis on-call rotation.
  14. Document treatment processes and progress in the EHR.
  15. Maintains awareness and promotes coordination of social, tribal, health, legal, community behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment services in order to provide comprehensive and holistic patient care.
  16. Applies behavioral principles to address modifiable lifestyle and health risk issues.
  17. Communicates effectively with the team, including providers, nursing staff, social/patient advocacy, CHAP’s, community behavioral health and case managers.
  18. Attend meetings, trainings, and case staffings as directed by the supervisor.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Integrated Care Therapist I:

Must have a Master’s degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Psychology, or Family and Marital Therapy (or the like). Master’s degree must be an eligible Master’s for an Alaska State licensure at the time of hire. If the candidate does not have a license eligible Master’s degree but has obtained a Doctoral degree that is eligible for an Alaska State Licensure, the Doctoral degree will be accepted as equivalent. Must be able to obtain an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LAP within 2 years. Broad clinical experience.  Ability to work with sensitivity in a cross-cultural environment.  Ability to adjust to “bush” conditions in Arctic Alaska. **Please inquire if supervision is currently available**

 

Integrated Care Therapist II:

Has met all minimum qualifications for Integrated Care Therapist I.  In addition, has obtained at least a Master’s Level professional mental health license in Alaska.  Examples of qualifying Master’s level licenses include Licensed Professional Counselor (under AS 08.63) and Marital and Family Therapy (under 08.29). Other qualifying Master’s level licensures are (1) Licensure as a Psychological Associate or (2) Licensure as a Master of Social Work.  Candidates with qualifying Master’s level licensures will still be required to obtain their terminal Licensure (LAP, or LCSW) within two years. *Please inquire if supervision is currently available**
