POSITION SUMMARY

This temporary position will oversee the planning of activities at the new childcare center in Kotzebue, Alaska, and serve as the Workforce Development point of contact for the contractor RurAL Cap, Maniilaq, and the childcare working group. This position will lead the planning, design, and setup of the curriculum, business plan, and related matters for the childcare center, focusing on a community-based approved program that establishes a safe, nurturing, culturally relevant, and high-quality early childhood education environment. This person will ensure that the curriculum and related operations fully comply with all local and state regulations, conduct in-house audits of files, budgets, and federal and state reports, and work closely with families, childcare resources (RurAL CAP, Thread Alaska), and the community to create an exceptional educational experience for children. This position will report directly to the WFD Director or designee.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead the planning, design, and setup of the childcare center, including facility management and resource procurement in conjunction with the Childcare Working Group and our consultant, RurAL CAP.
  2. Develop operational policies, procedures, and safety protocols in compliance with Alaska state regulations in collaboration with state resources, including RurAL CAP and/or Thread Alaska.
  3. Develop training opportunities with local partners (ATC and Chukchi College) to utilize the local workforce.
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with local organizations within the community, including other childcare providers, schools, and businesses.
  5. Represent WFD at community events and actively promote opportunities for partnerships.
  6. Coordinate ongoing meetings and community events with working group members and RurAL CAP.
  7. Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and minimum three years’ experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood education practices, child development, and state licensing requirements.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven experience in team management.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and financial reports with support.
  • Familiarity with Alaskan childcare/tribal exempt regulations and best practices is a plus.
  • Must possess current Alaska driver’s license and have a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  •  Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to interpret and apply state and federal policies, laws, and statutes.
