POSITION SUMMARY

This position works very closely with the Benefits Manager on benefits plans, insurance policies, and retirement programs. Performs tasks associated with enrolling and removing employees from various programs, as well as assisting employees with questions and concerns regarding the benefits Maniilaq Association offers. Updates and maintains all benefit forms, files (paper and electronic), and data in the HRIS/Payroll system.  Works under the general supervision of the Benefits Manager.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists the Benefits Manager in performing multiple clerical duties including answering phones, filing, making copies, scanning documents, and drafting letters.
  2. Provides consultative expertise to perspective, current, and former employees with questions regarding employee benefits, retirement and insurance plans.
  3. Assists with preparing for Benefits Committee meetings and help with meeting minutes.
  4. Enrolls and remove employees in/out of various insurance programs and databases.
  5. Processes short-term disability claims and Family Medical Leave (FML) applications.
  6. Approves/disapproves Family Medical Leave applications
  7. Processes long-term disability claims.
  8. Process retirement distributions with Third Party Administrator per eligibility requirements.
  9. Adds new employees to the retirement system in HRIS/Payroll system and creates associated accounts with Investment Company to ensure timely retirement plan contributions.
  10. Assists with obtaining information for the Third Party Administrator’s annual retirement plan review and the Independent Auditor’s annual retirement plan audit.
  11. Regularly performs monthly audits on the insurance plan employee and employer payments to insure accuracy.
  12. Updates and maintains benefits filing system.
  13. Process employee benefit reimbursements for missed payroll deductions.
  14. Assists with the HRIS/Payroll system maintenance as it pertains to benefit plans.
  15. Assists with ACA coding to ensure compliance with the CARES Act.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent and three years directly relevant work experience in a human resources or management area. Higher education can be substituted for relevant work experience. Ability to work with people who are under stress. Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, and be detail orientated. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be a self-motivator. The ability to work with numbers must be able to type at least 30 wpm and have familiarity with computers and programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Must have a strong command of English both written and verbal in order to carry of job functions. Ability to travel in small planes. Valid Alaska Driver’s License, or obtain in 90 days, with a good enough driving record to be covered by Maniilaq’s insurance.
