POSITION SUMMARY
Assists pharmacists with inventory and inspections, including maintaining records of such. Receives and processes orders, packages drugs. Maintains pharmacy spaces in orderly manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Registered Pharmacist:
On a regularly scheduled basis inspects all locations where drugs are stored. Check all items for current dating and replenishes drugs and supplies to par levels. Maintain records of all inspections.
Receives, prioritizes, packages and mails village clinic drug and pharmacy supply orders. Communicates with village health aides for clarification or problems with orders.
Performs a variety of drug packaging and labeling dates.
Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosage forms.
Performs regular inventories and prepares drug and supply orders. Receives, unpacks, and stores drug supplies. Rotates inventory to insure current dating. Removes outdated drugs and packages them for return.
Maintains pharmacy and drug storage areas in a clean and orderly manner. Cleans utensils, glassware, counters and sinks as needed. Maintains storage shelves in an orderly manner.
Reviews physician orders for intravenous solution additives. Calculates and prepares additive drugs, materials and labels required for admixtures.
Assists in the bulk as assigned.
As experienced is obtained, must be able to identify correct auxiliary labels for each medication.
Perform and/or assume other job or work related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. College level course work in chemistry to medical related disciplines preferred. Must be in process of obtaining a pharmacy technician license from the State of Alaska. Must be able to successfully pass the State of Alaska background check for licensing requirement. Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric measurement systems. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals. Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolong periods of time. Need to be familiar with the use of computers.
