POSITION SUMMARY

This position will be split between the Putyuk Children’s Home (PCH) and the Counseling and Recovery Center (CRC). Provides the clinical oversight of the Residential Behavioral Rehabilitation Services Level II specializing as an Emergency Shelter placement (PCH). The children placed with PCH will receive an initial screening for admission, an assessment, individual counseling, family and/or group therapy as recommended. The therapist will collaborate with the Tribal entities, Office of Children Services, Northwest Arctic Borough, and other agencies as needed. The therapist will provide trainings and consultations for Putyuk staff.  Also provides assessments for incoming CRC clients and participates in an ongoing on-call rotation with other CRC staff. The position directly reports to the Counseling and Recovery Supervisor.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At Putyuk Children’s Home:

1. Makes on-going clinical decisions regarding the welfare of children who reside at PCH.
2. Provides individual, group and family therapy to children/youth currently located at PCH and receives clinical supervision from the Counseling and Recovery Supervisor.
3. Provides consultation to PCH manager regarding goodness of fit through pre-screening interviews for potential PCH candidates.
4. Reviews clinical and collateral documents after a child/youth is admitted into the residential home.
5. Within 48 hours of intake, the clinician will assess and determine the immediate needs and future treatment of the child/youth through medical referrals, behavioral and/or psychiatric recommendations.
6. Reviews placement every 15 days and documents on-going necessity, per state regulations.
7. Reviews and updates necessary documentation, including client treatment plan and service authorizations every 30 days, per state regulations.
8. Completes documentation in a timely manner as well as maintains confidentiality of client records and treatment.
9. Ensures accurate Release of Information forms from outside agencies are complete and current.
10. Provides staff with the individualized behavioral goals and possible interventions of each resident.
11. Offers education regarding mental health issues, behavior modification and information on how to work with traumatized children to staff, schools, an/or other organizations.
12. Provides parenting support to the immediate family of current residents.
13. Collaborates with the Office of Children Services to support the current resident in reunification with the family or the transition into alternate placements.
14. Networks with similar agencies within the state for the purposes of program development.
15. Incorporates the resident’s cultural background into the clinical setting.
16. Makes referrals to other institutions and community agencies.
17. Participates in regular PCH staff meetings.

     

    At the Counseling and Recovery Center:

18. Works with the Maniilaq CRC clinical team to complete 3-4 integrated behavioral health assessments per week.
19. Carries a caseload of clients.
20. Provides crisis intervention services and participates on the on-call rotation to provide crisis intervention on a 24-hour per day basis.
21. Actively participates in all CRC staff meetings and professional development.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Children’s Therapist I: Range 16

A Master’s degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Psychology, or Family and Marital Therapy (or the like). Master’s degree must be in eligible for an Alaska State licensure at the time of hire. Broad clinical experience. If the candidate does not have a license eligible Master’s degree but has obtained a Doctoral degree that is eligible for an Alaska State Licensure, the Doctoral degree will be accepted as equivalent. Must be able to obtain an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LAP within 2 years.  Ability to work with sensitivity in a cross-cultural environment.  Ability to adjust to “bush” conditions in Arctic Alaska.  Must be willing and able to travel frequently in small planes.

Children’s Therapist II: Range 17

Has met all minimum qualifications for Itinerant Therapist I.  In addition has obtained at least a Master’s Level professional mental health license in Alaska.  Examples of qualifying Master’s level licenses include Licensed Professional Counselor (under AS 08.63) and Marital and Family Therapy (under 08.29). Other qualifying Master’s level licensures are (1) Licensure as a Psychological Associate or (2) Licensure as a Master of Social Work.  Candidates with qualifying Master’s level licensures will still be required to obtain their terminal Licensure (LAP, or LCSW) within two years. *Please inquire if supervision is currently available*
