POSITION SUMMARY

Assists pharmacists with inventory and inspections, including maintaining records of such.  Receives and processes orders, packages drugs. Maintains pharmacy spaces in orderly manner. Supervises Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Biller to ensure every task is completed in a timely manner.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Registered Pharmacist:

  1. Identify all technician tasks and assignments and their completion frequency.
  2. Assign technicians on daily, weekly and monthly tasks to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  3. Schedule technicians and pharmacy biller to ensure completion of all tasks.
  4. Streamline the pharmacy workflow.
  5. Be responsible for Quality assurance and Compliance to pharmacy regulations.
  6. Perform other technician tasks as listed below:
  1. On a regularly scheduled basis inspects all locations where drugs are stored. Check all items for current dating and replenishes drugs and supplies to par levels. Maintain records of all inspections.
  2. Receives, prioritizes, packages and mails village clinic drug and pharmacy supply orders. Communicates with village health aides for clarification or problems with orders.
  3. Performs a variety of drug packaging and labeling dates.
  4. Communicates with physician, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosage forms.
  5. Performs regular inventories and prepares drug and supply orders. Receives, unpacks, and sores drug supplies. Rotates inventory to insure current dating. Removes outdated drugs and packages them for return.
  6. Maintains pharmacy and drug storage areas in a clean and orderly manner. Cleans utensils, glassware, counters and sinks as needed. Maintains storage shelves in an orderly manner.
  7. Reviews physician orders for intravenous solution additives. Calculates and prepares additive drugs, materials and labels required for admixtures.
  8. Assists in the bulk as assigned.
  9. As experienced is obtained, must be able to identify correct auxiliary labels for each medication.
  10. Perform and/or assume other job or work related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent.  College level course work in chemistry to medical related disciplines preferred.  Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions from the English Metric measurements systems. Experience in a clinical setting and familiar with medical terminology is required. Willingness to attend job related training and education programs. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals. Must be willing to be on call in times of declared disasters. Familiar with JACHO requirement and documentation in patient files. Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolong periods of time. Must be familiar with RPMS or equivalent used in the department. Must be able to successfully pass the State of Alaska background check for licensing requirement. Must have 2 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician or 2 years previous supervisory experience. Must be familiar with the current drug wholesale order system or equivalent. Alaska Pharmacy Technician License required.
