POSITION SUMMARY

Provides direct health care through traditional medicine and practices. This position reports directly to the Tribal Doctor Supervisor or designee.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides traditional medicine and direct health care practices.
  2. Provides traditional medicine and direct health care to patients in the Maniilaq service area.
  3. Refers patients who require further observation and follow up to the Maniilaq Health Center and Community Health Practitioner in the out-lying communities.
  4. Provides education on nutritious traditional foods, healthy life style practices and preventative health care to patients they provide and care for.
  5. Records into patient records all direct health care given.
  6. Guides and works with Tribal Doctor Trainees to teach the traditional medicine and health care practices.
  7. Ensures another staff member is present when working on a patient of the opposite sex.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Preferably speaks both Inupiaq and the English language competently. Familiar with Inupiaq culture, environment and able to relate to the people and clients. Must have in-depth knowledge of all aspects of traditional medicine and health care practices. Must have at least 3 years’ experience in the practice of traditional medicine and health care practices. Must obtain BLS certification within six months of hire. This position requires a self-motivated person with enthusiasm for promoting activity for Tribal Doctor Program.
