Patient Registration Specialist (Boston area)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The ideal person will work primarily at our busy Partners Urgent Care Center in the Boston area.  This person will handle the day to day activities of a busy urgent care center opened 9am-9pm daily.  The ability to be flexible with location, schedule based upon business demand is extremely helpful. 


A minimum of a High School diploma. Currently going through a medical certificate training program would be helpful.


Preferably 1-2 years of experience in a high-volume physician practice, urgent care center, emergency room or customer service oriented environment. Currently going through a medical certificate training program. 


  • Greet and assist patients and other guests in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
  • Maintaining necessary forms to carry out front desk activities.
  • Recording patient information as necessary on an electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Answering the telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner within minimum rings.
  • Liaising with patients, general practitioners, health care professionals, and patient's family members in a compassionate and kind manner.
  • Monitoring the patient's flow into the treatment and consulting rooms.
  • Receiving and conveying messages in writing, electronically and verbally.
  • Receiving requests for medication and preparing prescriptions for the signature by the general practitioner.
  • Making appointments, filling bills of patients, providing receipt of money, and undertaking any banking procedures.
  • Monitoring the clinical and stationery supply levels, and placing orders as needed.
  • Scanning, filing, and faxing the documents and preparing them for mail-out.
  • Spot cleaning the lobby, exam rooms, restrooms, and other areas around the center.
  • Ensuring the lobby is neat and clean, and reporting on any damage.
  • Assist patients by occasionally carrying small children, aiding those with difficulty walking or entering /exiting their car, transporting a patient in a wheelchair.
  • Attend and participate in periodic staff meetings.
  • Must be able to speak and write English fluently.
  • Provide administrative tasks such as taking payment for services, responding to emails and other staff in the offices as requested.
  • Perform all of the assigned duties of the host daily responsibilities check sheet for opening, shift and closing of clinic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology. 
  • An outstanding bedside manner with both children and adults.
  • A positive and energetic attitude which inspires other team members.
  • Communicates easily with people in all levels of an organization.
  • Possess excellent organizational and record keeping skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, balance multiple tasks, set priorities, and solve problems. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft software products such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Prior experience with eCW strongly preferred.
  • BLS/CPR certification required prior to employment. 
  • PPD/Flu shot will be offered if needed during first week of employment.      


  • Ability to lift 15-20 lbs.
  • Required to move from one location to another within and outside of the building; push, pull and reach; bend; stand for long periods of time; and sit for long periods of time.
