Job Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Physician Assistant promotes and maintains health by providing medical services to Sunrise Community Health patients under the supervision of a Physician. The Physician Assistant identifies short-term and long-term patient care issues that must be addressed, provides information and prescriptions, recommends options and courses of action, and implements Physician directives.  

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care in an outpatient setting.
  • Diagnose, treat and prescribe medication.
  • Works autonomously or in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, reviewing medications and reviewing medical histories.
  • Manages acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Writes prescriptions, orders diagnostic testing, and places referrals for patients.
  • Interprets and evaluates patient data to determine patient management and treatment options.
  • Institute emergency measures and emergency treatment or appropriate stabilization measures in situations such as cardiac arrest, shock, hemorrhage, and convulsions.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs procedures by performing injections, skin biopsies, suturing, casting/splinting, and managing wounds.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, growth and development information, discussing family planning, providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living, promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Provides “On-Call” coverage as scheduled.
  • Reviews and responds to patient concerns, reviews patient satisfaction surveys.
  • FTCA requirements – Complies with requests for information in support of FTCA malpractice coverage.
  • Adheres to clinical guidelines, performance of PCMH/QI measures.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains up-to-date license, DEA, board certification, and CME requirements for the position.
  • Team Based Care – Clinical Care Collaboration
    • Works in collaboration and continuous partnership with providers, clinical staff, and community resources in a team approach to promote access to appropriate care in the goal of enhancing patient health.
  • Pre-Visit Team Based Planning
    • Reviews daily schedule and chart by care team.
    • Documented instructions are written on the schedule, typed into the EHR appointment note, or in the EHR as a flag or clinical list update.
    • Ensures patient visit is more efficient by identifying:
      • Records from transitions of care are available during the patient visit.
      • Results from labs or diagnostic are in the EHR.
      • Labs or other services that are not specified in the standing orders protocols. 

Education & Experience Requirement:

Master’s Degree from an accredited educational program, Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in a medical related field and/or previous experience in the medical field as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Registered Nurse (RN), licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), a minimum of 2-4 years related experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities.This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measures.
  • Knowledge of professional medical practice.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care.
  • Knowledge in taking medical history, assessing medical conditions and interpreting findings in a highly efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology. 

    Computer Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Ability to sufficiently perform daily word processing tasks and work with data in spreadsheets.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

This position works in an office/clinic setting and while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel and use hands/fingers to handle or feel. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Current immunizations are required to work at Sunrise Community Health and may vary dependent upon the position. Influenza (Flu) and Tdap Vaccines are required for ALL staff.
