Public Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Engineering Technician IV or V in support of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center. This position will provide technical support to engineering and design staff in a variety of engineering tasks in the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, calibration, testing, fabrication, construction and operation of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems in accordance with engineering specifications.


  • Provide FTA support to troubleshoot, assess and repair propulsion main reduction gear (MRG) and shafts, associated lube oil and fuel oil systems, and related electrical systems.

  • Provide technical assistance and electrical troubleshooting with the installation, modification, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing. Systems include but must not be limited to the following:

    • New and existing marine electrical systems, electrical components, fixtures, electrical control equipment, and electrical systems that support propulsion plant and associated systems and components.

  • Provide electrical technician support for urgent mission degrading CASREPs or other system and component problems affecting propulsion plant systems.

  • Provide electrical technician support for assessments and inspections such as TMIs, TSRAs, INSURVs, and ICMPs.

  • Assist Ship’s Force with obtaining supply and repair parts information as required.

  • Provide Ship’s Force training on electrical troubleshooting techniques to identify and correct equipment failures.

  • Provide out briefs to Ship’s Force representatives including ship’s officers and supporting personnel to include command management and executive staff.

  • Assist with technical research and resolution recommendations for the DFS program. 21.3.8 Provide electrical support for ESR to include work specification review, IDR and CFR resolution, and review of PCPs and other formal work packages.

  • Provide support on electrical systems and subsystems outside the propulsion plant during periods of high workload. Systems and subsystems include:


    • Auxiliary motors and controls to include automatic speed control.

    • Switch gear to include instrumentation, controls, circuit breakers, reverse power relays, and load shedding devices.

    • Motor generator sets to include voltage and frequency regulators and monitors.

    • Lighting and power distribution systems to include cable, automatic bus transfer switches, and circuit breakers.

    • Battery chargers, power supplies and line voltage regulators.

    • Electric/electronic control, detection, alarm sensing, indicating, and monitoring systems and equipment.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience:


  • 7+ years of hands on experience.

  • Additional vocational or technical education.

  • Interested persons must be U.S. citizens

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Valid driver’s license and passport

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a required government security clearance and access to CLASSIFIED information and up to and including SECRET. All personnel are required to have a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) with clearance eligibility determined by DOD Central Adjudication Facility.

  • Must be able to gain access to the San Diego Naval Bases and Local Shipyards.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC).
