Position Summary:

Provide Information Technology (IT), Information Assurance (IA), and Cyber Security support to the Sensors and Sonar Systems Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, Rhode Island. Duties are diverse and require a broad understanding of IT/IA tools, systems, policies, and procedures. Tasks may include any or all of the following, among others:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain IT hardware in laboratory facilities, including configuration control troubleshooting, installations, and upgrades;
  • Support configuration, installation, upgrade, and maintenance of laboratory software;
  • Provide recommendations to Government personnel for laboratory hardware and/or software enhancements;
  • Support system/network protection, intrusion detection and monitoring, security policy enforcement, risk and vulnerability assessments, security evaluations and audits, and contingency planning;
  • Ensure NUWC Newport and higher echelon IA requirements and controls are being meet in the facility;
  • Support the installation of required patches and IA Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA);
  • \Prepare Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) documentation, and provide status reports and Plan of Action and Milestone (POAM) materials for DIACAP packages;
  • Support the development and maintenance of laboratory IT hardware/software inventory databases, and ensure updates to existing database are documented as Software Change Control Documentation

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • A current active SECRET security clearance is required.

Position Qualification Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in an applicable technical field is preferred;
  • Candidate must meet all DoD IA Technician Level I certification requirements, including A+, Network+, and Systems Security Certified Planner (SSCP) certifications;
  • Certified Navy Validator preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in support of a Department of Defense organization such as NUWC Newport;
  • Knowledge of IA security principles, concepts, and practices is required;
  • General IT hardware/software maintenance experience is required;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required;
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required;
