Thor Solutions, LLC (THOR) is seeking candidates to fill positions providing technical expertise and
training support for the U.S. Navy. Positions are located in Norfolk, VA, and Virginia Beach, VA.

Graphic Designer/Technical Illustrator -

Graphic Designer/Technical Illustrators work in conjunction with curriculum developers and technical
writers to create a variety of technical graphics. A technical illustrator takes information from text or data
and creates illustrations that communicate this information concisely and accurately. This information
could be research content, installation instructions or diagrams for a service guide. Reports to a Senior
Instructional Systems Designer or Project Manager.

Responsibilities of a technical illustrator revolve around the preservation of graphical material released
by the illustrator's company. This involves following regulatory standards, and effectively communicating
the message the employer intends to deliver. Technical illustrators must have an understanding of their
employer's products and goals.

Major responsibilities include:

  •     Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials.
  • ? Plans concept by studying information and materials.
  • ? Prepares visual presentations by designing art and copy layouts.
  •     Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts
  • ? Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
  • ? Prepares finished copy and art by operating typesetting, printing, and similar equipment; purchasing from vendors.
  • ? Prepares final layout by marking and pasting up finished copy and art.
  • ? Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment.
  • ? Completes projects by coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
  • ? Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies.
  • ? Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Experience:

Graphic Designer/Technical Illustrator -

  • ? Three (3) years of experience planning, designing and developing of visual information products to include knowledge of layout principles from initial concept to final layout utilizing computer software to execute the design.
  • ? High School Diploma (Relevant illustration experience may substitute formal education; knowledge of software illustration programs required)
  • ? Technical illustrators should be familiar with a variety of software programs, including AutoCAD, 3DS Max, Photoshop, MS Office, Adobe Flash Builder, and both Windows and Apple Systems.
  • ? Strong communication skills.
  • ? Technical proficiency in computer programs that model and design images.
  • ? Graphic Design Skills, Layout Skills, Creative Services, Customer Focus, Creativity, Flexibility,
  •     Attention to Detail, Deadline-Oriented, Desktop Publishing Tools, Acute Vision.
  •     Maintain minimum “Secret” level security clearance.
  •     US Citizenship required.
