Physician: Psychiatrist-Outpatient

Description:

Psychiatrist evaluates patients for mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. Prescribes medication when necessary.


Primary Functions:
       
    1. Understands and follows VNA’s “Mission Statement”, “Code of Ethics”, organizational policies, and structure.
    2. Provides primary care using generally accepted standards of practice. The physician develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and /or referral, used all available resources in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
    3. Hospitalizes as needed any patient requiring in-patient care. Provides primary care during the hospitalization. A physician without active or courtesy hospital staff credentialing and privileging will require the authorization of the Medical Director.
    4. Confers with consulting physicians, midlevel providers, nurses, support staff, patients, and families concerning treatment and care of patients. Makes appropriate specialty and sub-specialty referrals, but maintains responsibility, assuring continuing of care.
    5. Participates in health promotion/disease prevention activities. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
    6. Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities.
    7. Attends and participates in VNA Health Center activities as requested.
    8. Attends mandatory inservices and VNA Health Center meetings.
    9. Completes records in adequate professional detail, and in a timely and legible manner.
    10. Maintains and acquires knowledge and skills to perform required duties to meet all hospital, state, organizational and licensure requirements.

Qualifications
  1. Unencumbered license to practice medicine in Illinois as an MD/DO.
  2. Qualified in Basic Life Support.
  3. Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified
  4. Experience with telepsychiatry preferred.
  5. Experience with telepsychiatry *Please refer to contract for all other required qualifications.

     


Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:
1. Manual dexterity and strength sufficient to perform medical procedures and use computer.
2. Tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory senses intact.
3. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
4. Ability to lift as required in VNA Health Center physical exam.
5. Ability to drive a car.
6. Ability to deal effectively with high levels of stress.
